He lived in a magnificent castle on a cliff. He stood up and yawned looking at the Ligurian Sea. It took three minutes to the beach after steep stone steps. Tomáš Skuhravý rented an entire floor for himself and his family, 300 square meters to his brother. He drove luxury sports cars, which from time to time he blew up so madly that he was surprised that he survived.
He liked to boast of the wealth he had acquired when, as the second best scorer of the 1990 World Cup, he transferred from Sparta to FC Genoa.
“A monthly salary of one million crowns,” he said distantly.
The average wage in Czechoslovakia at that time was 3,840 crowns. He carried crumpled hundred marks in his pockets, and when he got to the caliber and ordered shots of whiskey for the whole place, he calmly lit his cigarette with a lighter and German bills, which an ordinary family earned for a week.
Who is Tomáš Skuhravý | Sports NW
- He was born on September 7, 1965 in Přerov nad Labem.
- One of the most famous footballers of Czechoslovakia.
- The second best scorer of the 1990 World Cup. He scored five goals (hat trick in the round of 16 against Costa Rica), only Salvatore Schillaci (died last September) was more successful.
- A Spartan who spent his military service in Cheb.
- After the 1990 world championship, he played in FC Janov, then in Sporting Lisbon and Viktoria Žižkov. As an official, he helped in Příbram, for example.
- Now sports director of Slovácko, the last team in the league.
- His cousin is Roman Skuhravý, currently the coach of Slovácko.
“The bravado, the defiance, the swagger, that was mine,” he says in the book Bohemians in football bootswhich was recently released.
The authors classified Skuhravý in the category of flamendres. And they didn’t know that at the end of 2025, he wouldn’t have enough to pay his debts.
“I’ll ring on Monday, thank you”
He sifted through what he had.
What he didn’t have, he borrowed.
Although he is currently the sports director of the first division club Slovácko, it seems more like a function behind the face and the past.
With an official salary of 29 thousand crowns per month.
Slovácko, the last team in the table, sensationally beat the favored Pilsen 3:0 at the weekend, but they are still not doing well. Current joy in the club from Uherské Hradiště was brought by Skuhravý’s younger cousin Roman, who recently took over the coaching role. But this story describes someone else.
Seznam Zprávy has a document in which Tomáš Skuhravý is asking for a financial pardon. It is publicly available and it can be read from it that since March 2000 he owes over 1.8 million to A04 Omega, and since May 2003 even over six million to APC Four. In addition, over 300 thousand to the General Health Insurance Company and a few small ones to the Czech Office of Insurers.
The petitioner, or Tomáš Skuhravý, submitted an insolvency proposal “as a debtor’s proposal and combines it with a proposal for debt relief”. In popular terms: personal bankruptcy.
One of the most famous Czech football players has debts that he cannot repay. Seznam Zprávy reached out to him on the telephone contact, which is the last of many that works, to see if he would comment on the matter. He replied immediately: “I’ll ring on Monday, thank you.”
How much does the big Bomber owe
The deed states that:
- He has no valuable possessions except personal belongings. Nor does he own any real estate. He lives in a sublet in Prague and commutes to work in Uherské Hradiště.
- He stayed abroad for a long time, where he occasionally received rewards associated with long-term activity in football. These were small amounts. At the same time, he also underwent surgery and underwent subsequent rehabilitation.
- Current income is 29 thousand gross as part of the employment contract with Slovácko. He has an agreement to perform work in the amount of five thousand for the company Araver CZ. It is said that income can be expected to increase over time.
The circle is closing and one of the richest Czechs from the early 1990s is asking the court to declare personal bankruptcy and debt relief.
“I thought within my business that everything was in the right hands. But after my return from abroad, I find that it was not so, and I want to put all my affairs and debts in order,” he promises in the documentary.
Skuhravy promised often.
He even claimed that he could age gracefully.
Now, at 60, he seems to have been forced to admit the problem.
In other words, performance for creditors and unsecured creditors: The regular monthly amount that can be used from the applicant’s expected income for debt relief is at least 7,606 crowns for a period of three years, i.e. at least 273,816 crowns.
Debt counseling statement
“The court must first assess whether two main conditions are met. Whether bankruptcy is proven and whether it looks like it could go into debt relief. Then it will issue an order authorizing debt relief. That’s not the beginning of the repayment schedule.
Then all the facts in the proposal are checked to see if everything is true. The insolvency administrator assigned to him by the court finds out how much he earns, if he could earn more, if he has any other assets that he has not declared, or if he has owned any real estate in recent years.
When the insolvency administrator finds all this, he prepares a review report and a discharge report. In the event that the debts are already in execution, it does not move much. In the aforementioned debt relief report, the insolvency administrator will propose to the court whether he recommends approving the debt relief or not. Of course, creditors also comment on this, but the final decision is then up to the court.
In the event that the court approves everything, he will repay a certain amount for three years and then he will really be out of debt. In other words, the debt of more than eight million crowns will be paid off.”

As a European football star, he earned a similar amount per week. He played in the Italian league during its heyday. Next to Maradona, van Basten, Matthäus, Rijkaard or Roberto Baggio.
At the same time, he was the most watched football player in Czechoslovakia. A little mysterious and unreadable, because he went to the national team meetings like a king. Without an ounce of self-reflection.
In the mentioned book about bohemians, where there are stories about Jan Berger, Vlastimil Petržel, Ján Gelet, Roman Kuklet or Karel Dobiaš, Skuhravý talks about his demons. A memory of the trip with the national team: “A suitcase of ballantines, which I brought on the plane to make the trip go better. When I showed it to the general secretary of the union, Rudl Baťa, he just rolled his eyes. But then he also took it with us. Shots of whiskey that I ordered for my teammates at the bar.”
He chewed on a pint glass during the war in Cheb and climbed the Christmas tree in the square. He told about many night moves with his partner Jozef Chovanec, who later became the coach of Sparta and the national team. He didn’t miss the games, in which he could start only in the second half, because he had to get over a hangover in the first one.

Long mane, big shoulders, national team jersey. Bomber in action.
While he was an ace at the 1990 World Cup, the second best scorer of the championship, he was no longer invited to Euro 1996. He had problems with sore knees and behavior.
He didn’t realize he was getting into trouble.
He gradually learned that the Bomber guesthouse, which he built in his native Přerov nad Labem and stuck his nickname on the shield, was a downright losing investment. As he changed his phone numbers, he was similarly talked into making investments that didn’t pan out.
The gunner who shot down Real Madrid in the UEFA Cup at the age of eighteen was becoming a caricature of himself.
Business disappointments.
In addition, brats, as he is still recognized in Genoa, where he is allegedly the main face of the local football academy.
My obligations arose mainly from business activities, when I stayed abroad for a long time since 2004 and within the framework of my business I thought that everything was in the right hands.
At the end of 2025, you can read in the judicial annals that “due to the long-term stay abroad, the petitioner does not have a renewed coaching license. Due to health reasons, the renewal of the license is now unrealistic”.
As a member of the board of directors of Slovácko, which he became in the summer, he has a company car.
He states as the most significant previous job or business: professional soccer player.
At the same time, he signs: “My obligations arose mainly from business activities, when I stayed abroad for a long time since 2004 and as part of my business I thought that everything was in the right hands. But after my return, I find that it was not so, and I want to put all my affairs and debts in order.”
In the event that the court approves his request and Skuhravý pays regularly the amount of at least 7,606 crowns per month for a period of three years, then he will really be out of debt. He will pay less than 300 thousand of the debt of more than nine million.

We follow big events and behind the scenes for you, we bring you sports stories.
With a smile, a trimmed beard, longer blonde hair, a white shirt and designer jeans, you wouldn’t guess that you were talking to a government debtor. The players of Slovácko, even the most experienced ones, have been noticing since the holidays which football legend appears at training from time to time.
“Mr. Skuhravy smokes two cigarettes and disappears. He’s probably supposed to give us courage that he’s one of us. But it just looks weird,” says one voice from the cabin.
Honestly, Slovácko is in a severe crisis, for which he is definitely not responsible. The team, which was used to generally playing in the upper half of the table, could not cope with the generational change and the change in the club’s structure, so the results are disappointing. After the 18th round, he remains last. If the table were to close right now, it’s going down.
You may remember that Tomáš Skuhravý used to celebrate his goals with a toss-up. Now, at least according to the authorities, the divorced father of grown daughters is broke.
