Martinez Defeats Guardiola: Portugal Win

The year 2025 continues to smile on Portugal coach Roberto Martínez. After leading the Seleção to victory in the Nations League and qualifying for the 2026 World Cup, the technician was voted best Catalan coach of the year.

During the 13th edition of the Gala Estrelles del Futbol Català, organized by the Catalan federation, Roberto Martínez won the award for best football coach with 58.53% of the votes. He is thus ahead of the iconic Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola (31.71%), as well as Pere Romeu, coach of the FC Barcelona women’s team (9.76%).

This distinction, awarded by a panel of 43 jurors made up of journalists, Catalan political figures and partner representatives, reinforces the status of a coach whose recent results have been praised.

Under the leadership of Martinez, Portugal regained a conquering dynamic, punctuated by a continental title and a rather satisfactory qualifying course. This recognition in Catalonia salutes his work, both on the ground and in the structuring of the group.

The ceremony, scheduled for December 29, will also distinguish several young talents from Spanish and Catalan football. Among the winners are Lamine Yamal, Aitana Bonmatí and Pau Cubarsí, symbols of the new wave of Catalan football.
