BRATISLAVA – The current league champion ŠK Slovan Bratislava is going through a difficult time.

Belasí are currently in first place in the domestic Niké League, but the fans themselves do not feel completely satisfied with the performances on the pitch. This was also shown in the last league match against Košice, who beat Slovan 2:0 in the capital of the east.

The wards of coach Vladimír Weiss st. before the last autumn round, they have a one-point lead over the second Dunajská Streda, two points ahead of the third Žilina and four points ahead of the fourth Trnava. Well-known football experts Ladislav Borbély and Peter Ďuriš think that Slovan is paying extra for a demanding schedule, since in addition to the Nike League, the “Whites” also play in the Conference League.

“Slovan is now at a crossroads and has to move. I think that now is not the time for personnel changes. In addition, we must respect the implementation team that brought the club to this position, that Slovan is still the most valuable team in terms of gaining international credit for Slovak football.” said Borbély in the FutbalSK program on STVR.

“The season is in full swing and it makes no sense to make radical solutions now. Some of the things Vladimír Weiss mentioned are gradually catching up with the club. And I fear that they will catch up with them if they are not dealt with. It is true that several players have arrived, but I ask, has Slovan strengthened his team? I am not convinced that it is possible to achieve better results with the same team without reinforcements, or possibly repeat them.” Borbély thought about Slovan’s current roster.

“It is true that now Slovan has a minimal lead, but that is the result of a reduced form and some result failures. On the other hand, there is a four with a similar number of points. At the moment, they are consistent in their results in failures. At the beginning it was Dunajská Streda, then Žilina and Trnava, now Slovan. There is a strong four, but is the level of our league competition OK? We have four teams here and, unfortunately, the rest are at the very bottom.” added Borbély.

Peter Ďuriš also expressed his opinion on the current events in Slovan. The former Slovak footballer thinks that Slovan is paying extra for the successful last season, in which the “Whites” appeared in the Champions League. On the one hand, it affects the players, on the other, the fans expect more and more from the team.

“Last year we were all looking forward to the Champions League and today we are questioning it… I’ll just start with coach Weiss. Vlado Weiss is a very intelligent and reasonable person who has achieved a lot. I think he is the first to start with himself. But everyone in Slovan should start with themselves, whether they are doing their job as a unit. That coach is bound to cook only from what is actually in that squad,” said Ďuriš in the FutbalSK show on STVR.

“Please, let’s not put on rose-colored glasses and dream about the Champions League, that we belong there! Well, we don’t belong there. We have our own competition, which has been improving in quality over the last few years, I don’t want to dishonor it, but the Champions League is about something else entirely. We also have to be satisfied with the Conference League, where there are no easy teams and it sucks you out.

It just seems very little to all of us after last year. We should stop a bit and look at the conditions we are working with, with which players, and then we can compare it. If the Conference League was so weak, we would have three or four teams like the Czechs there today. But that also proves that they also lost a bit in terms of quality.” added Ďuriš.
