Rozier NBA Betting Scandal: Not Guilty Plea

The scandal over suspicious sports betting rocks the NBA. Now a suspected professional had to appear in court.

Terry Rozier has pleaded not guilty in court in the betting scandal in the NBA basketball league. The 31-year-old professional is accused of helping players place bets on his performance in NBA games.

Rozier appeared in federal court in Brooklyn on charges of wire fraud and money laundering conspiracy. He was released on $3 million bail secured by his home. Prosecutors accuse the longtime NBA pro of helping friends win bets on his performance in a March 2023 game while playing for the Charlotte Hornets.

Strict requirements

He was also ordered by the judge not to engage in gambling, not to possess firearms and not to have contact with victims, co-defendants and witnesses in the case. Rozier, who is from Ohio, also had to surrender his passport and is only allowed to travel between Florida, Ohio and New York without prior authorization. Rozier and his attorney did not comment outside the courtroom.

In October, the arrests on allegations of fraud in sports betting and poker games and suspected mafia connections caused a stir. In addition to Rozier, more than 30 people were arrested, including NBA coach Chauncey Billups. Billups also rejects the allegations. Both were placed on unpaid leave from their teams while their trials continued.
