With a big point for morale, trainer Sabrina Wittmann sets off on the last stage of the exam on her way to the “little lifelong dream” of a pro license. Her FC Ingolstadtin which Julian Kügel was sent off early, won 2-2 (1-0) at Erzgebirge Aue on Sunday evening. Fredrik Carlsen’s opening goal (31st minute) was scored by Marvin Stefaniak (49th) and Jonah Fabisch (79th), but Jonas Scholz (90th + 1) had the last word for the Schanzer.
“I have difficulties with the referee’s decisions today – and not just because of the sending off,” said Wittmann. Simon Schreiner’s line prevented the game from flowing.
After the victory of SSV Ulm (1-0 at Viktoria Köln), the defeats of SSV Jahn Regensburg (0-1 at Hoffenheim II) and 1. FC Saarbrücken (1-2 at Waldhof Mannheim) as well as the last-minute draw by Alemannia Aachen (2-2 when outnumbered at Hansa Rostock), the field in the table cellar has moved even closer together. The Schanzer are 13th with 21 points.
Wittmann changed her starting eleven in one position compared to the 3-2 win against TSG Hoffenheim II – and not voluntarily. Former Auer Linus Rosenlocher had to miss a short notice, Elias Decker stepped in for him at left-back and was able to collect his first minutes with the professionals since the beginning of October. Aue’s starting line-up included two former Schanzer players, Ryan Malone and Moritz Seiffert.
Schanzer Kügel flies off the field early – wrongly?
Simon Lorenz caused a small moment of shock on the FCI side, as he almost missed a blatant back pass (10th). The Saxons recorded their first notable goal by Anthony Barylla (13th), whose volley went a little too high. The same applied on the other side to Max Besuschkow with a free kick from 25 meters (15th) and top scorer Marcel Costly with his shot from the corner of the penalty area (18th).
After 26 minutes, many a Schanzer fan might have already had the goal shout on their lips. But Gustav Christensen, who was unguarded at the far post, jumped past Costly’s soulful cross. Aue caused numerous corners and free kicks for Ingolstadt near the penalty area – with consequences: A cross from Besuschkow was directed by Scholz to Carlsen, who slotted in to make it 1-0.
The Auers rightly complained about a handball by Scholz during the assist, but referee Simon Schreiner let the goal through. A little later he drew the Schanzer’s anger: after a completely unnecessary but not red-worthy foul by Kügel on Malone, he was sent off. The Pförringer, who has had no luck so far this season, cleared his ex-colleague on the sidelines, but did not hit him with an open sole. Schreiner’s decision was “extremely hard,” said Wittmann.
FC Ingolstadt receives a blow in the neck and comes back
The Schanzer made it 1-0 at the break, but had to accept the equalizer shortly after the restart: Stefaniak converted a low cross from Barylla from six meters to make it 1-1. The Wittmann team still had over 40 minutes to survive and defended themselves passionately against conceding another goal.
Goalkeeper Kai Eisele defused Malone’s header (63′), Mattis Hoppe’s chance, also headed, provided relief (69′). The FCI allowed almost nothing, even with one man less, but were punished for a carelessness: Fabisch headed in to make it 2-1 for Aue. The Schanzer once again threw everything forward and were rewarded by Scholz’s 2-2 draw. “That was justified,” explained Wittmann.
The FCI’s last home game of the year is coming up next Saturday (2:03 p.m./BR and Magenta Sport). And the opponent couldn’t be more famous by third division standards: TSV 1860 Munich (on Saturday 3-1 against bottom team 1. FC Schweinfurt 05) around former FCI coach Markus Kauczinski is doing the honors in the Audi Sportpark.
