Naples returned to the top of the Italian Championship thanks to their success (2-1) against Juventus Turin on Sunday, while AS Roma conceded for the first time this season a second defeat in a row, at Cagliari (1-1).
Napoli had to try twice, but they ended up sinking Juve and spoiling the return of Luciano Spalletti, coach of the 2023 scudetto of Naples, to the Diego-Armando-Maradona stadium.
The reigning Italian champions wasted no time and took the lead in the 7th minute thanks to Rasmus Hojlund receiving a cross from David Neres.
Napoli could have doubled the lead in the 25th minute but Giovanni Di Lorenzo’s recovery was stopped by Michele Di Gregorio.
Juve, long shaken, ended up regaining their senses thanks, as often, to their Turkish prodigy Kenan Yildiz who equalized (59th) after a nice combination with Weston McKennie.
The last word went to Naples who regained the advantage with a headed goal from Höjlund (78th), the Danish striker’s fourth since leaving Manchester United.
Thanks to this third victory in a row in Serie A, the Italian champions have regained control in the standings with 31 points, one more than Inter (2nd), impressive against Como (4-0) on Saturday, and three more than AC Milan (3rd) who are playing their match of this 14th day in the Torino stadium on Monday.
Juventus remains 7th, but is eight points behind its opponent of the day.
