The Borussia professionals celebrate the goal at Mainz 05.

Away task for Borussia Mönchengladbach at FSV Mainz 05 – on the 13th Bundesliga matchday the foals narrowly won 1-0 against the bottom team!
In the first half, Borussia celebrated after just 16 minutes with an own goal from Mainz defender Maxim Leitsch after a Gladbach corner. However, the ball bounced slightly into Yannik Engelhardt’s hand and the hit didn’t count.

In the second half, a Mainz own goal caused the visitors’ block to freak out again, again from a Borussia corner. Haris Tabakovic headed past Danny da Costa’s back and from there the ball went into the goal. This time the goal counted (58th minute). Thanks to the win, Gladbach is in ninth place, at least overnight!
Here are the Fohlen professionals’ scores after the Bundesliga game at FSV Mainz 05 in our individual review:
Moritz Nicolas: Didn’t really have much to do in the cold in Mainz. Was only forced to make the first real save by Weiper shortly after the restart. Note: 2,5
Joe Scally: Saw yellow because he threw the ball away completely unnecessarily. It was his fifth and is therefore blocked in Wolfsburg. Otherwise, a calm performance from the defensive player. Note: 3
Nico Elvedi: Had the shop largely under control together with Diks and Scally. Weiper lost sight of him once, but luckily for the Swiss, the Mainz striker headed unchallenged next to the goal. Note: 2,5
Kevin Dicks: If the corner of the net had actually been extended to make it 1-0 in the 17th minute, it wouldn’t have been Engelhardt’s hand. Not particularly challenged defensively, they defended away almost everything that came from Mainz. But that wasn’t much. Shortly before the end, he cleared a Lee shot with his head. Note: 2,5
Jens Castrop (until 90): Missed the 1-0 lead after a counterattack in the 16th minute when Leitsch cleared his shot off the line. Shortly afterwards with another good finish. Failed in the 57th minute after a good combination and then again after a ping-pong action in front of the Mainz box, this time to Batz. Note: 2
Yannik Engelhardt: I had my hand on the ball in the 17th minute when Leitsch’s own goal was supposed to be scored, but the goal didn’t count. Otherwise not much to see, which isn’t always a bad thing given his position as a destroyer in front of the defense. Note: 3
Luca Netz: His corner didn’t lead to the lead because of Engelhardt’s handball in the 17th minute. Was also on the offensive a lot. It was one of his better games in recent weeks. Note: 2,5
Rocco Reitz: As usual, worked hard and motivated the team. Hit the corner that made it 1-0. Was once again on the course as a horse lung. Shortly before the end, Batz failed from a good 17 meters. Note: 2,5
Giovanni Reyna (bis 69.): Unremarkable play by the US boy, he didn’t really use his second starting eleven opportunity in a row for self-promotion. Always seemed unfortunate in his offensive actions. Note: 4
Haris Tabakovic: A typical Tabakovic game was not seen for a long time. But with his presence he forced the 1-0 after a corner when he headed the ball to da Costa’s back and from there it ended up in the net. Note: 2,5
Shuto Machino (bis 79.): Like strike partner Tabakovic, he remained largely inconspicuous, but worked a lot and was hard-working. Failed after Tabakovic’s assist from around 16 meters to the strong Mainz keeper Batz. Note: 3
Kevin Stöger (from 69): Was about as invisible as Reyna. For over a month now I’ve been able to use it for longer than ten minutes. No grade
Grant-Leon Ranos (ab 79.): Helped bring victory over time. No grade
Marvin Friedrich (ab 90.): Got a few more minutes too. No grade
