Aragonese badminton is on a winning streak, following up on last weekend’s national under-19 successes with a double triumph in teh under-23 and under-15 championships. These prestigious events were held in Cartagena and Granollers, showcasing the rising talent in Spanish badminton.
In Cartagena, the dynamic duo of Alejandro Gallego and Gonzalo Isaba, representing Badminton Huesca, clinched the national men’s doubles title. Their path to victory included a decisive win against the top-seeded pair, Marcos González and Iván Torre from Oviedo. Gallego and Isaba dominated the match with scores of 21-8 and 21-14, demonstrating remarkable skill and teamwork.
This latest victory adds to Gallego’s impressive haul. He previously secured a silver medal in the individual category and a gold in men’s doubles with Isaba, alongside a gold in mixed doubles, all achieved last weekend. These performances have further solidified his top position in the national rankings for his age group. For Isaba, this marks his third medal in just seven days, underscoring his consistent excellence. His previous accolades include two golds with Gallego and a bronze in mixed doubles in the under-19 category.
Meanwhile, in Granollers, Hugo Gallego, also a standout from Badminton Huesca, captured the gold medal in mixed doubles. He complemented this achievement with a bronze medal in the individual competition.In the mixed doubles final, Gallego partnered with Sara Arenas from Córdoba. Together, they faced a formidable Galician pair, Xoan Balboa and Xulia Otero, ultimately triumphing in a thrilling three-set match: 21-10, 13-21, and a nail-biting 22-20 in the deciding set.
In the individual discipline, Hugo Gallego’s journey ended in the semifinals. He was defeated by the local favorite, Nil Leiva, with set scores of 21-18 and 21-13. This performance earned him one of the two bronze medals awarded in the fiercely competitive individual category.
