Rimini Baseball Steps Back from Serie A,Focuses on Youth Development
Rimini,Italy – In a surprising move that will ripple through the Italian baseball landscape,New Rimini Baseball has announced it will not register for the upcoming Serie A championship in 2026. The club, a relatively new entrant to the top tier, having competed in the 2021, 2022, 2024, and 2025 seasons, cited a confluence of challenges as the driving force behind this arduous decision.
Founded just in January 2021, New Rimini Baseball aimed to bring a fresh energy to the sport. However, Vice President Giacomo Pelliccioni detailed the important hurdles that have made sustaining their Serie A presence untenable.
“First and foremost, we’re finding it increasingly difficult to operate without full access to our home field, the historic Pirates stadium,” Pelliccioni explained. “Promises were made that the Municipality would regain control of the stadium and its concession in a timely manner. Unfortunately, that hasn’t materialized.Ther are ongoing legal proceedings between the Municipality and the current manager, Asd Rimini Baseball, and no resolution is in sight.”
The strained relationship with the current stadium management has been a persistent thorn in New Rimini’s side. Pelliccioni elaborated, The relationship with the manager has been extremely conflictual over the years, hindering our ability to implement projects. This has also made it challenging to secure sponsors, as potential business partners ofen require visibility within the sports facility itself.Essentially, since our inception, we’ve felt isolated.
Adding to the difficulties, Pelliccioni highlighted that the club’s formation was predicated on collaboration among local baseball entities. We had an agreement in place, but it was only partially honored in our second year. This ultimately created further obstacles for the development of our project.
While New Rimini will be absent from Serie A, the club is not disappearing from the Italian baseball scene. Pelliccioni confirmed their intention to compete in the Serie C championship.More importantly, the club remains committed to nurturing the next generation of talent.
We are considering participating in the Serie C championship and, in any case, we will continue to work to foster the growth of youth programs in surrounding clubs through our coaches and players,
Pelliccioni stated. This strategic shift underscores a dedication to the grassroots development of baseball, a crucial element for the long-term health of the sport in Italy.
The decision by New Rimini Baseball to step back from serie A, while disappointing for their top-tier aspirations, signals a pragmatic approach to building a enduring future. Their continued involvement in Serie C and their focus on youth development suggest a commitment to the enduring spirit of the game, ensuring that the passion for baseball in Rimini will continue to thrive.
