The potential retirement of tennis legend Novak Djokovic is a topic that resonates deeply within the sports world, given his status as arguably the greatest player in history. His career achievements are unparalleled. However, the Serbian star has indicated that his departure from the professional circuit is not imminent.
In a recent interview with Serbian media, the 24-time Grand Slam champion addressed his future retirement plans. He stated, “Throughout my life and my career, I have always had a mental plan several years in advance: what I want and how I want it. Having achieved absolutely all possible goals, I said about the 2028 Olympic Games, sence I wanted to play for many more years. I want to retire at the Olympic Games with the Serbian flag,it would be great.”
He further elaborated on the uncertainty surrounding this goal: “Will I arrive on time? Don’t know. There are things that are beyond my control. I try to be as healthy as possible, both mentally and physically, and keep that competitive energy.”
If Djokovic were to compete in the 2028 Olympics, he would be 41 years old. For now, the focus remains on his current performance, with his career progressing tournament by tournament. In 2025, he secured two titles, reached one final, and made it to the semifinals of all four Grand Slam tournaments. He recently withdrew from the ATP Finals due to a shoulder injury.
