Things are going from bad to worse for Newell’s. The Independencia park team lost on Friday against Unión at the Coloso and was left in a very compromised situation in the annual table, which adds up the points harvest in the Apertura and Clausura tournaments. The last one in that classification will go to relegation and will play in the First National.
As if that were not enough, the situation was complicated for the red and black this Saturday, since two of the teams that were below them in that table won their matches for the 14th date of the Clausura, the same one that corresponds to the defeat against the tatengues at the Marcelo Bielsa stadium. After a clean sweep, the two results that most compromised him ended up happening.
Aldosivi became strong in Mar del Plata
In the first round of the afternoon this Saturday, Aldosivi beat Independiente Rivadavia 3 to 1 in Mar del Plata and with this result he achieved two effects that directly impact Newell’s: the first is that he surpassed him in the standings of his area in the Clausura, in which the red and black team were last, and the other is that he was just three points behind the team led by Lucas Bernardi in the annual table, when there are only six in dispute.
In Aldosivi, to make matters worse, Justo Giani had a very good performance. The footballer with a past at Newell’s scored a goal and gave an assist, which was key to Tiburon’s victory at the Mar del Plata World Cup stadium.
Triumph of Workshops in Liniers
In the second round, the news was not better for Newell’s, since Talleres beat Vélez 1-0 in Liniers and reached it in the annual table. Now the Rosario team only has four rivals below it in that classification: Gimnasia, Godoy Cruz, Aldosivi and San Martín. The good thing is that people from San Juan and Mendoza will face each other this Sunday, which is why if there is a loser they will be on the brink of the abyss in the annual table. If they tie, however, both would get closer to Newell’s and there would be no team more than three points away from the red and black.
Although Vélez was superior, the team led by Carlos Tevez resisted and was able to win a victory that gave it some breathing room in the fight to avoid relegation.

Newell’s still has to play against Huracán in Parque Patricios and against Racing in Coloso. They will be complicated games, not only because of the current status of Bernardi’s team but also because both rivals seek to add to enter the playoffs of the Clausura tournament. The outlook, then, is very complicated for the red and black, who must win the six points that are still at stake. A mission that seems difficult considering the current state of the team.
