PSG beat Bayer Leverkusen 7-2 this Tuesday, in a match counting for the third round of the Champions League phase.
Vitinha and Nuno Mendes were starters in the Parisian team, and it was from the Portuguese full-back that the pass came for the first goal of the match, from Pacho (7m).
At 25 minutes, the first of two penalties in favor of the Germans. However, Grimaldo (ex-Benfica) shot straight at the post. The second penalty was in the 38th minute, after Andrich (Bayer Leverkusen) and Zabarnyi (PSG) had been sent off. This time it was Garcia who took over the conversion and didn’t miss, equaling the result on the scoreboard.
Even before the break, there was a very strong reaction from the current European champions. Doué (41m and 45+3m) and Kvaratskhelia (44m) extended the advantage at the end of the first half.
The second half opened with a “made-in Portugal” goal. Vtinha with a great pass isolated Nuno Mendes, and the defender finished for 5-1.
Garcia (54m) scored twice for Leverkusen, before Dembelé (66m) scored the first goal after receiving the Ballon d’Or award.
The rout ended with a new Portuguese touch. Vitinha, after having already assisted, also scored with a great shot from outside the area and closed the result at 7-2.
With this result, PSG remains undefeated in the competition and in the leaders’ group with nine points, while Bayer Leverkusen is in 26th place with just two points won.
