On Saturday, Mexican authorities assumed that the Swedish gang leader Mikael “Greek” Tenezos was arrested in the country. Even on Sunday, neither the Swedish police nor the prosecutor can confirm or reject the information.
“I haven’t heard anything from Mexico yet,” says prosecutor Ida Arnell, who leads a case where the 27-year-old was arrested in his absence.
Sweden has no extradition agreement with the country and it is unclear whether Tenezos has been arrested for crimes in Mexico or on the international search issued.
However, according to the press release from Mexico’s security authority, the 27-year-old must have been detained in order to eventually be transferred to Swedish authorities.
Ida Arnell does not want to draw too large conclusions from the statement.
– I go on what I hear directly from the Mexican authorities. But if they are willing to leave him, it is obviously positive.
State Prosecutor Daniel Jonsson leads another case against Tenezos. He also wants to be careful about interpreting the information in the Mexican statement.
From a Swedish perspective, a gripping would be of great importance, according to Jonsson.
– We have strong suspicions against him in several preliminary investigations. Therefore, it would be of great importance. We have been working for him to be arrested for a long time.
Tenezos is estimated to have been staying in Mexico for several years. The cooperation between Swedish and Mexican authorities during that time had a good cooperation, according to Jonsson.
– But how and when that happened, I don’t want to go into.
