Liepaja, Latvia – Get ready for a serious display of strength as athletes from Latvia and Lithuania converge on the Liepaja Olympic Center on Saturday, October 25th, for a crucial leg of this year’s Latvian Cup in powerlifting. This event, organized by the Latvian Powerlifting Federation, promises a day packed with intense competition and the pursuit of national glory.

Karina Grigorjeva, a spokesperson for the Liepaja Power Sports Team and Libava Powerlifting Association, confirmed the exciting news. “This Liepaja Championship isn’t just another competition; it’s the 15th Latvian Cup and the sole stage to be held in the Kurzeme region,” Grigorjeva stated. “It’s a meaningful opportunity for athletes to earn vital points and showcase thier dedication.”

The competition will feature a diverse range of categories, catering to athletes of all ages and experiance levels. Expect to see fierce battles in the youth, junior, Open, senior (40+, 50+, 60+), and women’s divisions. The top three lifters in each weight class will be recognized, but the ultimate prize goes to the absolute best in each group, steadfast by the IPF coefficient. This refined scoring system takes into account an athlete’s body weight and the sheer amount of weight they lift, ensuring a fair and thorough assessment of strength.

The day’s action kicks off at 10:00 AM, with weigh-ins for each athlete’s category running until 11:30 AM. The official lifting begins promptly at 12:00 PM, so mark your calendars and prepare for a full day of powerlifting prowess.

Weight class Breakdown:

* Youth and Juniors: Competing across nine distinct weight categories.
* Seniors and Open Group: Battling it out in eight weight categories.
* Women: Showcasing their strength in seven weight categories, all adhering to strict IPF rules.

Beyond individual accolades, team spirit will be on full display. Team scores are calculated based on the top 10 results, with a minimum requirement of two youth athletes, two junior athletes, and six athletes from any group. While an unlimited number of participants can represent a team, only the top three teams will be awarded at the Liepaja Championship, adding another layer of strategic competition.
