Kik Pierie seems to have announced the (provisional) end of his football career. The 25-year-old defender, who is now clubless, makes it clear at the table at the ESPN football canteen that he has ‘stopped now’ and make other things happier than playing football now.
At the football canteen, Pierie tells something about a Guardian article from eight years ago, in which he was classified as one of the sixty greatest talents in the world together with players such as Vinícius Júnior. If table companion Robert Maaskant wants to ask a question in between, Pierie seems to make it clear that his career as a football player is in any case for the time being. “I have stopped now,” says the left leg, who left at Excelsior earlier this month and is now clubless.
Later, Pierie is asked whether his career failed, now that he seems to stop as a former talent at the age of 25. “No, not at all. Honesty does say that when I went to Ajax, I did not expect that I would say six years later: Do you know what, I stop playing football, because I like other things much more and the football life does not suit me, I will not be happy about that. Pierie comes from the youth academy of SC Heerenveen, where he broke through as a teenager in the first team. That was also noticeable at Ajax, which took over in the summer of 2019 at the age of nearly twenty for five million euros. In Amsterdam, Pierie never came to a performance in the main force, he played mainly in Young Ajax and was rented to FC Twente and Excelsior. Now Pierie helps football players with his own company to get a grip on their finances.
