Original title: Global Chinese Basketball Invitational Opens in Harbin More than 2,000 Chinese Participants

On September 11, the 41st Global Chinese Basketball Invitational Tournament opened in Harbin, with 165 teams and more than 2,000 athletes from 13 countries and regions including the United States, Singapore, and the Philippines participating.

The opening ceremony was held on the same day, and former basketball player and coach Zheng Haixia and others attended the event on site. At the opening ceremony, Ye Zhendong, president of the Global Chinese Basketball Invitational Conference, said: “The Global Chinese Invitational Conference has been held for 40 years and has become an important platform for connecting Chinese people around the world. This competition is the first time that it was held in Heilongjiang Province, China. The autumn is clear and the temperature is pleasant, which is very suitable for basketball games.”

After the opening ceremony, all participating teams quickly entered the competition. On the court, the athletes actively fought and cooperated tacitly, and their wonderful shooting and wonderful passing won cheers and applause from the audience.

Off the court, Chinese people from different countries and regions communicate with each other, sharing basketball stories and life insights, and basketball has become their common language to enhance friendship and promote cultural exchanges.

Cao Bingquan and six other teammates made a special trip from Toronto, Canada to participate in the competition. He went to Toronto with his family in junior high school. Now he is 71 years old. He said: “After the Global Chinese Basketball Invitational Tournament, I went to many cities in my motherland and felt that all parts of my motherland are beautiful. This is the first time I came to Heilongjiang. After the game, we have to travel here for 3 days, see the scenery and eat Northeastern cuisine. I am looking forward to it.”

The competition lasts for 4 days, with three groups: women’s group, men’s group, and men’s and women’s mixed group. The age span of the contestants ranges from 35 to 75 years old.

The Global Chinese Basketball Invitational Tournament was initiated by the Chinese Sports Association in the United States in 1985. After more than 40 years, it has become a landmark event in the global Chinese basketball community, building a bridge for Chinese people around the world to compete for football skills and deepen friendship.

The event is supported by the Chinese Basketball Association, guided by the Heilongjiang Provincial Sports Bureau, and hosted by the National Chinese Basketball Invitational Tournament. (Reporter Wang Nina)
