Latvia vs Lithuania: EuroBasket 2022 Loss Recap

Latvia lost with 79:88 (18:28, 19:19, 17:19, 25:22), but Lithuania will meet the winners of the Greece and Israeli game in the quarterfinals.

In the Latvian national team, Kristaps Porziņģis scored 34 points, 19 rebounds and five personal notes. He made half of eight shots, six of 14 two -point shots and ten of 15 free throws. Rihards Lomazs scored 21 points and seven assists, with the rest of the basketball players gaining more than eight points.

Arns Velička played the top scorer in the Lithuanian national team, scoring 21 points, 12 assists, five rebounds and six errors. He hit three of the five long -range shots in the basket and threw eight of 12 free -kicks. Ažuls Tubelis and David Sirvīdis scored 18 points, scoring 12 and seven rebounds respectively.

The Latvian team lost in the battle under the baskets (36:44), made more mistakes (14:10) and accumulated less blocked shots (1: 6).

Lithuanians were more precise from all distances – two -point shots (56% or 20/36 against Latvian 49% or 17/35), long -range shots (33% or 6/18 against the Latvian national team 31% or 11/35) and free kicks (68% or 30/44 vs 60% or 12/20).

This was Lukas Banks’s last game as head coach of the Latvian national team.

Lithuania started the game with a 7-0 break with Ažul Tubel, from the bottom of the basket, with Arn Veličk’s three -point shot and to send the ball in the basket after winning the ball.

Porzģis scored the first points for Latvia with a long -range shot, but Rihards Lomažs answered another accurate three -point shot – 10: 6 for the Lithuanian national team.

After Arthur Kuruc’s deliberate offense, Gītis Radzevičs made one of the two free throws, but after five seconds, Velichka made his third long -range shot in three attempts – 14: 6 for Lithuania.

The Lithuanians took the lead in the first quarter 53 seconds before the end of the quarter, with Jon Valanchun’s two -point shot, with a quarter of a quarter of 28:18 for Lithuania.

The home side started the second quarter with an 8-0 break with Lomaz and Roland Schmit in two baskets, but failed to equalize the score.

The Lithuanians responded with a 9-0 break, leading 47:35 after David Sirvīga’s two -point shot.

The last two points in the half, firing the ball from above, were Porzinģis – 37:47.

Also in the first half of the second half, the score difference for Lithuanians fluctuated close to ten points, holding the Lithuanian team in the first quarter.

In the 23rd minute, Velichka faced Arthur Jagar’s head, suffering from both basketball players as Velich went on the field as he had his head over and received a personal note and continued the game.

In the 29th minute, after three accurate Marek Blaževičs penalty shots, the Lithuanians achieved the biggest lead – 62:49.

In the last quarter, the Lithuanian team achieved a 14 -point lead after three penalty shots – 71:57.

The Latvian team continued to focus on long -range shots, but the Lithuanians scored many points with a free -kick, with a 75:60 lead with a penalty shot.

In the 36th minute, the fifth note in the fight against Porzģģis was earned and Lithuanian national team player Blazevich earned the field.

With six points in a row, the Latvian team, after a long -range shot from David Bertan, came close to the two -digit mark – 69:76 for the first time.

A minute and 49 seconds before the end of the match, Kuruc also earned the fifth note, and closer than a five -point deficit to the home side, after two long -range shots, failed (77:82).

In the next Lithuanian attack, Bertan also received the fifth note, but the Latvian national team chasing 21 seconds before the end of the match braked to Lomaz’s unsportsmanlike note.

20 seconds before the end of the match, Porzinģis also earned the fifth note, increasing the lead to 88:79 with free throws.

Lithuania will find out its opponent in the quarterfinals on Tuesday on Sunday in the Greece and Israel.

In other eighth finals on Saturday, Turkey beat Sweden with 85:79 in Riga and Germany with 85:58 – Portugal.

Serbia and Finland will meet in the last game of the day at 9:45 pm. All games are broadcast live on Go3 Sport channels.

Latvian basketball players started the tournament in Riga with a loss to Turkey (73:93), beat Estonia by 72:70, losing 80:84 in the match with Serbia, beating Portugal with 78:62 and the Czech Republic with 109: 75.

The Lithuanians in Tampere in the Finnish city of 94:70 beat Britain, with 94:67 – Montenegro, with 88: 107 defeated Germany, beat Finland with 81:78 with 74:71 in Sweden, taking second place in Group B.

In the game with Serbia, striker Andrejs Grazulis was injured in the Latvian national team, who is in the final. The Czech Republic did not play in the match against Portugal’s injured defender Krister Zorik, but Arthur Žagars also fights against Portugal’s injury.

Lithuanians have been left without one of the leaders – injured rock Jokubaša, Tad Sedkersky and Marek Blazevich played with Sweden, but in the last match of the group, the Lithuanian team’s top five defender Margir Normant also suffered an ankle injury.

The other eighth finals will take place on Sunday when Poland will meet with Bosnia and Herzegovina, France with Georgia, Italy with Slovenia, and Greece with Israel.

In the European Championship Finals, 24 teams played in four groups in Riga, Tampere, Katowice and Limassol. The top four teams qualified for the playoffs in Riga, finding out the medal winners in the first half of September. Groups A and B, as well as Groups C and D are meeting in the semifinals.
