There has been a lot of talk during these days of a possible final in the US Open between Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. No. 1 and No. 2 could meet the title at play in the American Grand Slam, as the last five times they have faced on the track has happened.
However, there are someone willing to prevent Sinner and Alcaraz from starring in the final duel: Novak Djokovic. The Balkan observes on the horizon, getting closer and closer, the possibility of expanding his Grand Slam record until 25. At 38, he defeated Taylor Fritz in four sets on Tuesday to make his way to a semifinal, where Alcaraz awaits him.
“We know that they are the two best players in the world everyone is probably waiting and forecasts a final between them. I will try to ruin the plans of most people,” Djokovic said. “We’ll see. Sinner still has to win a couple of games before the final. But they are playing better than anyone here. They have been the dominators since the beginning of the tournament.”
“But I’m not going out with the white flag to the track,” said the Serbian. “I don’t think anyone does it when he plays against them, but I will not do it particularly. I am in another Grand Slam semifinal this year. I have been very consistent, more consisting of the Grand Slam this season and, what I said at the beginning of the year, [es aquí] Where I would like to give my best tennis and make my best results. Here we are. I have another chance. ”

Djokovic has reached the semifinals in the four Grand Slam in 2025, losing Sinner both in Roland Garros and Wimbledon and retiring against Alexander Zverev in the Australian Open.
The four -time US Open champion pursues his first big since he won in Flushing Meadows in 2023 and for this he might need to defeat Alcaraz and Sinner, if he finally manages to advance two more rounds. The Italian, who faces his compatriot Lorenzo Musetti in the quarterfinals, and Alcaraz have distributed the last seven Grand Slam at stake.
After defeating Fritz in three hours and 27 minutes, Djokovic hopes to be prepared when the time is to return to the Arthur Ahse stadium this Friday. However, the Lexus ATP Head2head dominates in front of Alcaraz 5-3.
“It’s not going to be easy. I assure you,” Djokovic said with a smile. “I will try to go day by day. Take care of my body. Try to relax and recover. The next two days are the key to get my body to be shape and prepared for a battle to five sets, if necessary. I would love to do it.”
“I would love to be in shape to play and potentially do five sets with Carlos. I know that my best tennis will be necessary, but I will live up. I usually like to play in great games in great stages. The only thing is that I am not sure how my body will feel in the next few days. But I will try to give everything with my team to be prepared for it,” he added.
Djokovic also talked about his quarterfinal victory against Fritz in his press conference after the match. The seven-time Nitto ATP Finals champion amounted to three positions until No. 4 at the PIF ATP Live Rankings, improving at 11-0 its Lexus ATP Head2head in front of the American.
“Taylor is the type of player that if you allow him to play, he will try to dictate, being aggressive, near the line. He will punish you with the right. He was trying to survive, trying to be at the point, make him play,” said Djokovic, which presents an index of victories and defeats Infosys ATP this season of 31-9.
“I think it was good for me not to do many first serves in the first sets. Then it raised the level with the first serve and increased its percentages. Then, all suddenly, everything becomes more difficult during their games to the service. But then, I believe in the important moments of the fourth set I took out well, I varied, I went up to the network too … it is one of those days when you have to strive to the fullest. You have to play with your heart.”

Djokovic has matched Jimmy Connors with more presences in semifinals in the history of the tournament (14). The Serbian has won the US Open in 2011, 2015, 2018 and 2023.
