Yunior Alcántara: Bronze Medal – Astaná Boxing World Cup

The Dominican Yunior Alcántara beat by unanimous decision (5-0) to the French Christopher Hippocrate to ensure bronze medal and advance to the semifinals of the World Boxing Championship, which is held in Astaná, Kazakhstan.

Yunior Alcántara, who comes from obtaining bronze at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, becomes hardly the third Dominican to ensure the podium in a boxing World Cup.

The first to achieve the feat was Elio “ENAI” Rojas, when he conquered the third place metal in Belfast, Northern Ireland, 2001.

20 years later, in 2021, Alexy de la Cruz took the World Cup tanned in Bulgaria.

It is emphasized that Elio, over time, also became a world champion of professional boxing.

Is on the road

Yunior assured bronze, but the color of his medal can change, because he still stays alive.

In his next fight, the Dominican will seek to advance to the final to dispute the gold medal of the 51 kilos.

Difficulties to make the trip

The Astana World Cup is the first to be held under the organization of the World Boxing, the new international federation recognized by the International Olympic Committee after Challenge to IBA (International Boxing Federation).

In the fair, Dominican Republic only participates with the five boxers who have the protection of CRESO (creating Olympic dreams). The remaining eight could not travel for not receiving support from Ministry of Sports.
