Borussia Dortmund struggles to success against CF Monterrey. However, the duel of the Bellingham brothers will not exist in the quarter-finals.
Borussia Dortmund trembled in the highlight duel with Real Madrid in a gripping round of round of 16 at the club World Cup. With a 2: 1 (2: 0) against CF Monterrey from Mexico, the BVB is richer by another $ 13.125 million and meets Xabi Alonsos Real in the quarter-finals on Sunday (4:00 a.m.) in the German night in East Rutherford.
However, the Bundesliga club’s victory was expensive: In the quarter-finals, BVB will then lack the new top star Jobe Bellingham. The 19 -year -old Englishman saw a completely unnecessary yellow card early – it was his second in the current tournament. He will miss the long -awaited brother duel with the former Dortmund Jude Bellingham.
A double pack from Serhou Guirassy (14th minute/24.) In the strong first Dortmund half, the BVB, which was more likely to win in the second half, was all the more waned. German Berterame (48th) shot the connection goal for Monterrey, which until the end of the game failed again and again on the strong BVB keeper Gregor Kobel.
Initially, BVB showed its best game in the United States. For the first time, the Dortmunders were allowed to run in an evening game at 9:00 p.m. local time on Tuesday and also played in the tempered Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta and not with a paralyzing heat as before in Cincinnati.
In addition, many Mexican fans provided a World Cup mood in the ranks, but quickly became a little quieter. Dortmund played against the team of Spanish defender legend Sergio Ramos (39) with intensity that had not previously been shown in the United States and the necessary duel hardness that BVB had actually expected from Monterrey.
With a quick attack game, Karim Adeyemi and Guirassy in particular kept the opposing defense against problems. Within ten minutes, ADEYEMI put on the BVB goalkeeper twice, which consistently completed.
What looked like a clear thing for BVB at the break became exciting again after the change of sides, because the Dortmund defense failed several times. The Mexican striker Berterame, born in Argentina, used this to the connection goal with a head and thus brought back the Mexican audience.
The Bundesliga club was suddenly on the defensive, made several mistakes and lost security from the first half. Nevertheless, in the end it was enough to win.
