Rdé Digital, Santo Domingo.- With a solid performance at home, the Dominican Republic was awarded the first place of the senior Pan American Open of Judo, after conquering three gold medals, one of silver and three bronze.
The event was held at the Tony Barreiro Sports Center at the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD).
The international contest, endorsed by the Pan American Judo Confederation and organized by the Dominican Judo Federation (Fedoud), granted classifying points for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026.
The Judocas Robert Florentino, Medicksson del Orbe and José Nova were the protagonists of the golden medals in their respective categories.
- Florentino won the Colombian Francisco Balanta in the final of the -100 kilograms.
- The American beat the American Alexander Knauf in the -90 kg division.
- Nova won at +100 kg by defeating Mexican Sergio del Sol.
The country also added a silver medal through Omar Ramírez in the +78 kg category, while Keicha Minier, Oscar Santana and Ramírez herself obtained bronze medals in their respective divisions.
In the general medal, Puerto Rico occupied second place with two golds and a bronze, while the United States ended third with a gold, two silver and two bronzes.
Canada was fourth with a gold medal and a silver.
The event brought together prominent athletes from the continent, and also served as a talent evaluation platform with a view to the regional Olympic cycle.
Dominican participation reinforces the role of the country as an emerging power in Pan -American Judo and marks an important advance in its preparation for the next international commitments.
