The formal introduction of football in Colombia occurred on June 22, 1892. On that date, the then director of the Military School, American colonel Henry Rowan Lemly, instituted football in the country and established an inspired regulation in which it was used in England.
This regulation was disseminated in the newspaper El Telegram the same day that the first football game was played on an impromptu court in one of the schools of the school, located in San Agustín, at the headquarters of the former convent of the Augustinian parents.
The meeting faced two teams made up of members of the Military School and organized by Lemly, with the presence of the President of the Republic, Miguel Antonio Caro, and a limited audience assistance. The Colombian Olympic Committee has indicated that some historians attribute to Lemly the importation of the first balls and uniforms necessary for the practice of football in Colombia.
Regarding the establishment of professional football, credential indicates that the first professional league, under the organization of the Major Division of Colombian Soccer (Dimayor), was created in 1948.

The tournament began in August 1948 and concluded in December, with Independiente Santa Fe crowning as the first champion.
Currently, the first A category is maintained as the maximum division of professional football in Colombiacomplemented by the First B category, which functions as a promotion tournament

Independiente Medellín and Independiente Santa Fe were the best teams of the semester and those who played the final of the first semester of the Betplay League in Colombia. The first leg was played at the Nemesio Camacho El Campín de Bogotá stadium with a pale 0-0, which left the emotions for the last 90 minutes of the semester.
In Medellín, the one who hit first and opened the scoring was the powerful mountain, after a long walk by Francisco Chaverra that ended in a center, which he found through the center of the area to the Argentine-Polaco Francisco Fydriszewski to beat Andrés Mosquera and celebrate the partial 1-0.
However, Santa Fe did not be defeated by the context and, on the contrary, the rival arch began to disturb, first with a header from Hugo Rodallegathat went above the goal, and then at minute 31 a double header in the area, after a band’s kick, ended up in the goal of Harold Santiago Mosquera who freed himself from the Leider Berrio brand to surprise Washington Aguerre and put the game in tables.
In the second half, more fought than played, the scorer of the semester, Hugo Rodallega, appeared. When it seemed that he would leave the pitch, for a muscle injury, he asked the coach to give him one more play. Andres Mosquera’s serve was off the middle of the midfield by the striker, who gave a pass to Edward López. The attacker in a courage sample entered the area and arrived there, limping “Hugol” that without a brand and with his physical remains marked 2-1 in favor of the capital’s lion. Thus, independent Santa Fe achieved his tenth league title.
