Miami (AP) – Duncan Robinson opted for unrestricted free agency on Sunday, exercising its early termination option for what would have been the last year of its contract with the Miami Heat.
The decision does not mean that he cannot return to the Heat. Robinson, the historical leader of the franchise in triples scored, could have let his option pass on Sunday and then have secured $ 9.9 million of what was an agreement of almost 20 million for this next season.
Now you could negotiate a new contract with the Heat, agree to be part of an exchange by signing and being transferred by another player, or simply signing with a new club. Free agency in the NBA officially begins on Monday night; Robinson had until Sunday to decide on his termination option.
Robinson, 31, is a success story as few in the NBA. He began his university career in Williams Division III, then played in Michigan, was not selected in the Draft and the Heat gave him a chance.
From there, it became a key part of the rotation. He played in 15 games as a rookie and then was essentially a full -time holder in each of the next three seasons, making at least 232 triples in each of those years.
Its 1,202 triples are the greatest amount in the history of the team and needed less games than any player in the NBA history to reach several triple milestones, including 200, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 800, 900 and 1,000 annotations from beyond the arch.
Robinson has averaged 11.3 points and launched with 39.7% success from the three -point line in its seven seasons in the NBA.
