+++ 8:50 p.m. The tension rises, starting in ten minutes. We Germany make the leap into the final?
Update from June 25th, 6:56 p.m.: The head coach Antonio di Salvo has made two changes at the starting eleven of the German U21 national team. Weiper and Knauff begin for Tresoldi and Gruda.
First report: Kosice-The German U21 national team faces the greatest game of the current European Championship. On Wednesday (June 25th) the team of national coach Antonio di Salvo will meet France. After the dramatic 3-2 victory after extra time against Italy in the quarter-finals, the dream of the fourth European Championship title is tangible.
“We are already in the semi -finals and if we would not think of wanting to come to the final and, if you were there, you would be strange even after the title,” said coach Di Salvo after the quarter -finals. The final in Bratislava is the declared goal of the German team, which has won all four games at this European Championship so far.
The semi -final opponent from France has received impressive comeback qualities. “France is a top team that has a lot of quality, especially on the offensive. They scored a lot of goals,” Di Salvo analyzes the opponent. The French recently showed their morals in the 3-2 victory against Denmark when they were still turning a 1: 2 with a double strike in the 84th and 85th minute.
Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart is the top scorer of the German team with five tournaments. “Nick is and remains the nick we know. He is down to earth, always has fun, holds the team together,” di Salvo praises his striker. The 22-year-old collected impressive 18 goal participations (eleven goals, seven assists) in the last nine U21 games and is the key player in the German attack.
Play at eye level between Deutschland and France expected
The short regeneration period after the exhausting quarter -finals employs the national coach. “Logically, the boys are tired and broken, there are 120 minutes in the bones,” Di Salvo explains the situation. Nevertheless, he shows himself optimistic: “We do everything we can to regenerate and freshly go into play.”
The direct balance speaks for France: In 14 previous duels, the German U21 only won twice, while France was six times victorious. Most recently, both teams separated in November 2024 with a 2-2 draw. The German U21 is in an EM semi-final for the seventh time and was able to win the title three times. “It will be a game at eye level. It will be a game in which little things will decide on who will move into the final,” Di Salvo predicts the upcoming duel. ((smr)
