Arsenal seems to have big plans on the flanks this summer. The London club behind the scenes is fully engaged in a possible switch: Gabriel Martinelli should make way for a younger, more versatile profile. And that expresses Bradley Barcola, the French pearl of Paris Saint-Germain, emphatically.
According to L’équipe, the Gunners set their sights on the 22-year-old Barcola. The attacker broke through completely at PSG this season, with no less than 21 goals and 20 assists in all competitions. Moreover, he was one of the best players in the Champions League final against Inter. Yet his future in Paris seems far from sure.
Open attitude towards Emirates
What is striking: Barcola is not refusing to switch. According to several sources, the French international would “hesitate to extend his contract with PSG”, as long as the club’s transfer policy remains unclear. Arsenal hopes to benefit from that doubt and wants to make concrete work on a deal, especially now that Liverpool is also lurking.
Barcola is currently taking part in the World Cup for clubs in the United States, but behind the scenes a future is being worked on outside of Paris.
PSG wants more than 115 million euros
The fact that Barcola often had to settle for a place on the couch despite its impressive figures, may play in Arsenal’s benefit. After the arrival of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and the breakthrough of Désiré Doué, his status in the hierarchy fell. Yet PSG is not thinking of a bargain at all. The club would demand an amount of more than 115 million euros for a transfer-a price tag that weighs heavily even for Premier League clubs.
In the meantime, Arsenal is considering ways to make the deal feasible. According to English media, the club is considering selling Gabriel Martinelli to free up financial space. It is therefore no secret that Mikel Arteta wants to add absolute top quality to his attack next summer.
