The women’s main competition at the Grand Slam tournament in Wimbledon will take place without Austrian participation. On Tuesday, both for the home number one, Julia Grabher and Sinja Kraus was already in the first round of the qualification of the lawn classic.
Grabher had to give up the British local hero Amarni Banks 4: 6: 1 3: 6. The clear victory in the second set had still given hope for an ascent. In the decision set, however, the Vorarlberg woman received the early break to 0: 2, from which she could no longer recover. The 28-year-old left a missed chance of the immediate rebreak.
Grabher was in the Wimbledon main competition for the first and only time in 2023. At that time she lost 4: 6 4: 6 in the first round. In 2021 and 2022 the Dornbirner failed in qualification – in the second or in the first round.
Kraus misses premiere in the main field
For Kraus, when she competed in the Wimbledon qualification, it will be nothing with a premiere in the main field. The world ranking 155. lost in the opening round against the American Whitney Osuigwe after 1:24 hours with 3: 6 4: 6. Especially in the second set, more would have been possible for the 23-year-old Viennese, but after a 4-2 lead she won no game. Kraus was closer to her Wimbledon debut 2023 when she was only eliminated in the third quality.
For men, Filip Misolic is the only one of three Austrian qualifiers after a tremor victory in the second round. In the 3: 6 6: 1 7: 5 against the Dutch Guy den Ouden, Austria’s new number one had to ward off three match balls from the opponent in the decision set. After his recent tournament victory at the Challenger in Poznan, Misolic appeared in the ATP ranking and left Wimbledon-fix start Sebastian Ofner (115th) behind.

Against the 23-year-olds the Ouden (ATP-175.) Hard a hard game quickly. The Dutch got the first set and was in the third at the 5: 4 stand at Misolic before the match win. Styrian, who was placed in the qualification, successfully defended himself against the defeat three times. Misolic then got the break and finally served to win with an ace. The next opponent is the Belgian Gauthier Onclin.
In contrast, Jurij Rodionov and Lukas Neumayer have already left in the first quality. Rodionov lost to the top seed Hungary Marton Fucsovics with 4: 6 3: 6, Neumayer lost to the American Zachary Svajda with 2: 6 3: 6.
