Born in 1966 in Este, a small town in the Province of Padua, Raffaele moved to Turin at the age of six when his father, Orlando, relocated for work. ”Coming from a place where Venetian dialect was the norm, I was suddenly thrust into a bustling city filled with diverse cultures and languages,” Raffaele recalls. “It was a profound shift, a complete change.” This transition would shape not only his life but also his family’s future.

After years of shuttling between cities,they made a life-changing decision. “A Trieste native wouldn’t move to Turin’s fog,” Raffaele jokes. “As an adopted Turinese, I had to make the leap.” Trading Turin’s fog for trieste’s Bora wind, Raffaele embraced his new home, where he and Monica nurtured their daughters’ Judo careers. Veronica has already made her mark as an Olympic, world, and European youth champion, while Elisa, a rising star, balances her athletic pursuits with a degree in Medical Physics—perhaps following in her father’s footsteps.
At 56, Raffaele Toniolo continues to juggle multiple roles: coaching the national team, managing two gyms, supporting his family, and mentoring athletes. I believe that if more people embraced sports, regardless of the discipline, the world would be a better place. Young people would be less likely to turn to crime.
