The Carcassonne archery club,Les Archers de la Cité,is experiencing a surge in popularity,attracting individuals of all ages and skill levels eager to explore this captivating sport. With nearly 120 registered members, the club stands as one of the region’s most established archery communities.
“Our membership is incredibly diverse,” shares Bruno Maridet, the club’s vice-president. “We welcome both beginners and seasoned archers, catering to those seeking recreational enjoyment and those aspiring to compete at a higher level.”
The club has witnessed a notable influx of new archers, with approximately 20 adults recently taking up the sport.
A Structured Learning Path
Newcomers embark on a structured learning journey, progressing through various levels using increasingly complex bows.
“Initially, they are provided with a basic bow, loaned by the French Archery Federation (FFTA),” explains Maridet. “Dedicated training sessions with experienced instructors are scheduled to ensure their advancement. We also offer specific time slots for children who are just starting out. In total, we provide four hours of instruction per week for both adult and junior archers.”
Furthermore, Les Archers de la Cité is committed to inclusivity, providing training opportunities for archers with disabilities.
Competitive Spirit
Every weekend, experienced archers engage in various competitions. These events, often held indoors, allow archers to refine their skills and improve their rankings for the national championship. The club’s reputation extends beyond regional borders, attracting participants from overseas territories.
