From the Slopes to the court: Jannik SinnerS Unexpected Ranking
Jannik Sinner, the tennis sensation from Sexten, is making waves both on and off the court at the Australian Open. Known for his prowess on the tennis court, Sinner recently charmed fans with a lighthearted video where he ranked some of skiing’s greatest legends.
Sinner’s affinity for skiing is well-documented. As a child, he was a passionate skier, even participating in races. Even today,he finds joy in hitting the slopes and keeps up with the latest World Cup events.
During the Australian Open, Eurosport presented Sinner with a unique challenge: rank his top four skiers of all time. As the names were read out, Sinner thoughtfully assigned them positions, leaving Alberto Tomba, an Italian skiing icon, with the third spot.
Sinner’s reaction was priceless. realizing Tomba had been relegated to third place, he chuckled and playfully apologized, “Sorry, Alberto!”
Interestingly, Sinner crowned Lindsey Vonn, the legendary speed queen, as the greatest skier ever. Vonn, who is currently making headlines with her remarkable comeback to the World cup and personally knows Sinner, responded to the video with a heartfelt “Thank you, Jan!”
In a humorous twist, Sinner concluded the clip by stating, “All the names you read to me actually belong at number 1. All of them, except 11-year-old Jannik Sinner,” playfully placing himself last.
This charming video showcases Sinner’s down-to-earth personality and his genuine appreciation for the sport of skiing. It’s a delightful reminder that even amidst the intensity of a Grand Slam tournament, athletes can find moments of levity and connect with fans in unexpected ways.

From Hard Courts to snowy Slopes: An Interview With Alberto Tomba
Alberto Tomba, the Italian skiing legend known affectionately as “La Bomba,” is used to being on top. A triple Olympic gold medalist and two-time World Champion, Tomba dominated the slalom and giant slalom throughout the late 80s and 90s. So, imagine his amusement when rising tennis star Jannik Sinner recently ranked him just third on his list of greatest skiers of all time! we caught up with Tomba to discuss this light-hearted exchange and delve into the interesting world where tennis courts meet snowy slopes.
Moderator: Alberto, thanks for joining us. You’ve seen Sinner’s video, then?
Tomba: Si, si, of course! I have to admit, seeing myself behind Lindsey Vonn and, well, myself from several decades ago, was quite surprising! [chuckles] I have to respect the young man’s opinion, he’s a fantastic athlete.
Moderator: Sinner certainly has a playful personality. What do you make of his light-hearted take on such a serious subject as ”greatest skier” ranking?
Tomba: Look, it’s just a bit of fun, isn’t it? We shouldn’t take these things too seriously. Sinner is a charming young man, and it’s great to see him enjoying himself and connecting with fans in this way.
moderator: Some might argue that ranking athletes across different disciplines is inherently tricky. how do you objectively compare a skier like yourself to a tennis ace like Sinner?
Tomba: You’re absolutely right. Skiing and tennis are fundamentally different sports, requiring entirely different skill sets. We can admire Sinner’s speed and precision on the court just as much as we admire the speed and agility of a skier descending a challenging slope.
Moderator: Speaking of speed, let’s talk about Lindsey Vonn. You ranked her ahead of yourself. Many consider her the greatest female skier of all time. Do you agree?
Tomba: Lindsey Vonn is a remarkable athlete. Her resilience and dedication are inspiring, and she’s achieved amazing things in her career. It’s truly remarkable to see her making such a strong comeback after these years. She deserves all the recognition she receives.
Moderator: Tomba, throughout your illustrious career, you’ve seen countless skiers rise and fall. What advice would you give someone like Jannik Sinner who is trying to balance their passions for both sports?
Tomba: Passion is key. Never lose sight of your love for the sport. Balance is important too. Finding time for both pursuits can be challenging, but it’s valuable to nurture different interests. And remember, have fun!
Moderator: that’s powerful advice. what’s next for la Bomba? Any plans to strap on those skis again and hit the slopes?
Tomba: [laughs] I’m enjoying retirement, but I still get out on the slopes occasionally. The mountains will always be a part of me.
