Saturday, January 11th, saw intense competition in both the U14 and U16 men’s divisions.The day kicked off with a dominant performance by San Salvador Sur in the U16 category. They secured a decisive 63-28 victory over Academia de Nuevo Cuscatlán, with Íker Colocho leading the charge, racking up an impressive 17 points.
The highly anticipated clash between the U14 division leaders, Sprtns and santa Tecla IMDELS, followed. Sprtns asserted their dominance throughout the match, ultimately triumphing 39-28. Guillermo Polanco emerged as the game’s top scorer, contributing 12 crucial points.Despite the loss, Santa Tecla IMDELS remains at the top of the standings with 20 points, though they have played one more game than Sprtns, who are hot on their heels in second place with 19 points.
The action continued on court 3 with a nail-biting encounter between On Fire and Nejapa BC in the U16 category. the game remained a tight contest until the final buzzer,with On Fire ultimately clinching a 54-52 victory.This win propelled them to fifth place with a total of 26 points.
Simultaneously occurring, court 2 witnessed a series of compelling matchups. San Salvador Sur showcased their prowess with a 58-33 win over Sivar Sports Academy. Santa Tecla IMDELS edged out Nejapa in a close 61-59 battle, while Don Bosco secured a 36-26 victory over the Colquet Academy.
The adrenaline-fueled action continued into the afternoon with the U14 and U16 women’s divisions taking center stage. The excitement is set to continue on Sunday, with both male and female teams battling it out for supremacy.

Coach Hernandez: San Salvador Sur definitely came ready to play. They play an exciting, fast-paced style of basketball, and Colocho is a key part of that. He’s a talented scorer with a good all-around game. He’s a player to watch for sure.

Coach Hernandez: Its fantastic to see this kind of competition at the youth level. Both Sprtns and Santa Tecla are well-coached teams with talented players. It’s going to be a tight race to the finish line, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it comes down to the wire. these back-and-forth matches are what make youth basketball so exciting.
Moderator: Absolutely! Looking at the bigger picture,do you see these performances as indicative of the overall growth and development of basketball in El Salvador?
Coach hernandez: Without a doubt. The level of play in the BDL has been improving every year. We’re seeing more skilled players, more competitive games, and a wider base of talent. This is all incredibly positive for the future of basketball in our country.
