David: I believe it might very well be. Chang clearly understands how to build a global brand and connect with fans from different cultures. Formula 1 needs to continue expanding its reach, especially in markets like the United states, where the sport is experiencing a surge in popularity. His experience with the NBA’s growth in china is especially relevant.
Moderator: speaking of the United States, the sport’s popularity there has exploded recently. Do you think Chang’s appointment will help further capitalize on this momentum, or should the focus be on other regions?
David: The US is a crucial market, no doubt. But Formula 1 shouldn’t neglect its existing fanbase in Europe and other regions. A delicate balance is needed. Chang’s challenge will be to maintain that existing fanbase while attracting new viewers worldwide.

You bring up a good point – balancing tradition with growth. Stefano Domenicali, the current F1 boss, will report directly to Chang. How do you see this dynamic playing itself out? Will Domenicali be given the autonomy to continue implementing his vision, or will Chang be looking to make his own mark on the sport?
david: It’s encouraging that Domenicali will have increased autonomy. He clearly has a strong vision for the future of Formula 1. I would anticipate Chang will want to collaborate with Domenicali, sharing his own perspectives and experience while allowing Domenicali the space to lead the day-to-day operations.
Moderator: What are some of the biggest challenges facing Formula 1 today, and how do you think Chang can address them?
David: Sustainability is a major issue. Formula 1 needs to continue its efforts to reduce its carbon footprint and become a more environmentally kind sport.
