Gridiron Glory: A Conversation with hall of Fame Quarterback, Steve Young
This week on “Inside teh Huddle,” we’re joined by Hall of Fame Quarterback steve Young, a three-time Super Bowl Champion with the San Francisco 49ers.Steve, thanks for joining us!
Steve Young: Always a pleasure to talk football!
Host: It’s a thrilling weekend for NFL fans as wildcard Weekend kicks off. The high stakes adn unpredictable nature of these matchups make it truly captivating. What are your thoughts on this year’s playoff contenders?
Steve Young: There’s no doubt this is a loaded field. You’ve got established powerhouse teams like the chiefs and the Bills, but then you see young guns like Josh Allen and Lamar Jackson carving their own paths. These games are going to be absolute slugfests.
Host: Lamar Jackson is having a phenomenal season, on pace for a third MVP award. Do you see him leading the Ravens all the way to the Super Bowl?
Steve Young: Lamar’s a unique talent, no question about it. The way he can shred defenses with both his arm and his legs is mesmerizing. But playoffs are a different beast,Steve. They require a different level of focus, discipline, and execution.
Host: I disagree, Steve.I think Lamar’s dual-threat ability is precisely what makes him, and the Ravens, so hazardous in the playoffs.
Steve Young: I hear what you’re saying, and maybe I’m just old school. I believe a strong, balanced offense is key to playoff success.
Host: Speaking of old school, Aaron Rodgers and the Packers are entering the playoffs a tad under the radar. Can they recapture the magic and mount a deep run?
Steve Young: You can never count Rodgers out. The guy’s a magician with the ball. But they face a tough matchup against a very strong Philadelphia Eagles team. That’s a potential upset waiting to happen.
Host: It seems like every year there are a few teams making surprise playoff appearances. This year, it’s the Chargers, Commanders, Vikings, and Broncos. Do you see any of these teams making a deep playoff run?
Steve Young: The Vikings have been a bit of a surprise this year.Kirk Cousins has really stepped up his game. But facing the Rams, even with them playing in Arizona due to the wildfires, is a tall order in the first round.
Host: We can’t forget about the heartbreaker stories happening this weekend either.Matthew Stafford having to relocate his home game due to the devastating wildfires in Southern california, adding an incredibly tough layer to an already intense playoff situation.
Steve Young: My heart goes out to the Stafford family and the entire Rams association.
Those fires are an absolute tragedy, and thankfully, they’re putting football second and focusing on those affected communities.I respect that immensely.
Host: Absolutely. One hashtag that’s trending on social media right now is #PlayoffsDebut. How significant is it for a team like the Broncos to make it back into the playoffs after nearly a decade?
Steve Young: It’s massive. This is what these young players dream of. Getting that experience, feeling the intensity, and just being part of the playoff atmosphere, it’s crucial for their development.
Host:
we have to talk about the Lions.
They’ve clinched a playoff spot for the first time in years. Do you think they can finally break their first-round curse and make a deep run?
Steve Young: I love what the Lions have been building. Dan Campbell has instilled a real sense of grit and determination in that team.
They’ve got a lot of talent, and they’re hungry to prove themselves. Could they pull off an upset? Absolutely.
But this is the NFL, anything can happen.
Host:
That’s the beauty of it. What tip would you give to these players heading into such a high-pressure situation?
Steve Young: It’s about staying focused on the process, one play at a time. Don’t let the moment become too big.
Trust your training, trust your teammates, and let it all hang out on the field.
Host: Great advice, thanks Steve for sharing your time and insightful analysis.
Steve Young: My pleasure! Good luck to all the teams this weekend!
