Ajax Eyes Winter Reinforcements, Dependent on outgoing Transfers
Ajax is actively seeking reinforcements in multiple positions during the winter transfer window.Though, the club’s ability to bring in new players hinges on successful outgoing transfers. According to journalist johan Inan of the Algemeen Dagblad, Ajax is open to letting Owen Wijndal and Benjamin Tahirovic depart, either permanently or on loan.
Technical director Alex kroes is currently focused on securing the services of 22-year-old Spanish winger Raúl Moro from Real Valladolid. inan reports that Ajax is aiming for a loan deal with an option to buy, reflecting the club’s need for financial prudence.
While ajax identifies other areas within the squad that could benefit from reinforcements, Inan emphasizes that the club’s ability to add players this month depends on outgoing transfers.
Both Wijndal and Tahirovic, despite being relegated to the reserves, remain on Ajax’s roster. The club hopes to find suitable destinations for them, either temporarily or permanently, before the transfer window closes.
Wijndal, 25, is contracted to Ajax until mid-2027 and is currently valued at around €4 million by Transfermarkt. The Amsterdam club invested €10 million to acquire him in the summer of 2022.
Tahirovic, 21, has also seen a significant decrease in his market value. Ajax paid over €7.5 million to secure the controlling midfielder from his previous club in the summer of 2023, with his current estimated value standing at €3.5 million.
The potential departures of Wijndal and Tahirovic would free up considerable space in Ajax’s wage budget. Wijndal reportedly earns approximately €2.5 million per year in Amsterdam, while Tahirovic has reportedly turned down offers from other clubs due to lower salary propositions.
