Stan: Always happy to be here and talk hoops.
Very exciting game, wasn’t it? We saw Austin Reaves deliver a triple-double and lead the Lakers to victory over Steph Curry and the Warriors.Did Reaves’ performance surprise you?
Stan: look, Reaves has been showing flashes of this all season. He’s a tough kid, versatile, and he doesn’t back down from anyone. But a triple-double on Christmas Day against the Warriors? That’s a statement.I’m impressed, but not entirely surprised. This kid has the tools to be a special player.
Some people are calling this a breakout game for Reaves. Do you think so?
Stan: It’s definitely a leap forward. The consistency needs to be there night in and night out. But, yeah, this kind of performance puts you on the map. Now, teams are going to be game-planning for him. The real test is how he responds to that added pressure.
Speaking of pressure, Steph curry put up a valiant effort, but it wasn’t enough. What are your thoughts on his Christmas Day performance?
Stan: Steph is Steph. You know he’s going to give you everything he’s got. he almost willed the Warriors back into that game. It’s tough, though, when you’re facing a team playing with that much collective energy and focus like the Lakers had.
The Lakers definitely looked hungry for that win. Do you think this victory gives them momentum heading into the new year?
Stan: Absolutely. This is a huge win for them, especially against a rival like the warriors. It builds confidence, and it creates a belief within the team that they can compete with anyone in the league.
What about the Warriors? They’ve had some ups and downs this season. What do they need to do to turn things around?
Stan: This is a team that needs more than just Steph shining. they need contributions from everyone.Draymond Green needs to be more consistent, and the young guys have to step up.They’ve got the talent, but it needs to come together as a cohesive unit, and that takes time and adjustments.
Exactly. ESPN reported that this year’s Christmas Day games saw record-breaking viewership. What do you attribute that to?
Stan: It’s the star power, there’s no doubt whatsoever. Curry, LeBron, KD… these are household names. People want to see these guys play, especially on a holiday. The NBA has also done a great job promoting these marquee matchups. It’s become a tradition, and fans love it.
