Coatzacoalcos Athletes Shine on National and International Stages
Coatzacoalcos has once again proven its prowess in individual sports, with athletes achieving remarkable success in state, national, and international competitions.Judo, tae kwon do, and women’s artistic gymnastics emerged as standout disciplines, showcasing the city’s dedication to athletic excellence.
Judo: A Year of Triumphs
The BOGA Institute’s judo program delivered remarkable results in 2024. Talented judokas Lilian Villar and Iván Eduardo Jiménez secured their spots in the Macroregional tournament after dominating the State Championships.
Further solidifying coatzacoalcos’ presence in the judo world, Doriley Villar, enoc Basulto Hernández, and Zaid González delivered commendable performances at the prestigious Tomoyoshi Yamaguchi National Tournament.Veteran athletes also made their mark, with sensei Alejandro Borrego and Gerardo Robledo claiming gold medals at the II National Championship for their category. Cruz Antonio Gómez added to the medal haul with a silver medal performance.
Tae Kwon Do: International Recognition
ES TKD Pan American students proudly represented Coatzacoalcos on the international stage, participating in critically important events. The growth of school-level tae kwon do can be attributed to the dedicated efforts of Professor Erick Sosa José, president of AVEDE.
A group of martial artists from this training center journeyed to Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, to participate in an enriching International Camp.
In the International Tournament held in the dominican Republic, siblings Alberto and Aimee Echeverria secured a second-place finish in their respective categories, demonstrating their skill and determination.
Bibi: A Gymnastics Icon
María Bárbara Wetzel, affectionately known as Bibi, continued her reign as a gymnastics champion. At the World Trisomy Games held in Antalya, Türkiye, Bibi once again dominated the competition, earning the title of multiple champion.
Representing the Levic Club of Coatzacoalcos, Bibi’s exceptional performance saw her claim victory in the floor, vault, and uneven bars events, adding to her extraordinary list of accomplishments.
