Castelnaudary, a vibrant town in the Aude region, boasts a thriving community of sports enthusiasts. Among them, the FJEP archery section stands out, offering a welcoming space for both seasoned archers and curious beginners too explore this captivating sport.
For nearly four decades, the FJEP archery section has been fostering a love for archery in Castelnaudary. Led by Alexian Chanat,a passionate archer with 19 years of experience,the club currently boasts around 40 members,ranging from young children to adults.
Alexian, who began his archery journey at the tender age of six, now dedicates his time to sharing his passion with the younger generation. While he cherishes the chance to practice his own archery skills, he finds immense fulfillment in guiding and inspiring the next generation of archers.
Training sessions are held twice a week, on Wednesday evenings and Saturday afternoons. Wednesdays focus on honing concentration through target practice, while Saturdays are dedicated to fun and engaging games.
The club actively encourages its members to participate in competitions at the departmental, regional, and even national levels. While competition is a valuable aspect of archery, the FJEP section prioritizes the joy and camaraderie that the sport offers.
“The pleasure of archery comes before any performance,” emphasizes Alexian. This beliefs is reflected in the club’s convivial atmosphere, where members gather for a shared snack before each training session.
The FJEP section provides bows for its members, but encourages archers to invest in their own arrows for optimal performance and comfort.

Welcome, alexian! Yoru passion for archery is infectious. What initially drew you to this sport?
Alexian: Thank you! Archery found me when I was just six years old. It was more than just the thrill of shooting arrows; it was the intense focus required, the satisfying “thwack” of the arrow hitting the target, and the mental challenge of constantly striving for precision. It’s a sport that demands both mental and physical strength.
That’s truly inspiring. You’ve been coaching aspiring archers for years now.What do you find moast rewarding about sharing your expertise with the next generation?
Alexian: Seeing young people discover the joy of archery is incredibly fulfilling. Watching them progress, develop their skills, and build confidence is truly somthing special. It’s not just about hitting the bullseye; it’s about nurturing their discipline, focus, and determination – qualities that transcend the sport itself.

Alexian: Don’t hesitate! Archery is accessible to anyone, regardless of age or physical ability. It’s a sport that teaches patience, concentration, and a sense of accomplishment. Come to one of our sessions, meet our welcoming community, and give it a try. You might just discover your new passion!

Alexian: Archery is, first and foremost, a journey of self-enhancement. While competition can be a valuable aspect of the sport, we believe that the true joy lies in the pursuit of excellence, the camaraderie among archers, and the satisfaction of mastering a challenging skill. We encourage our members to support each other, celebrate each other’s successes, and learn from setbacks together.
