Richarlison has a contract with Tottenham (ING) until June 2027
### FlamengoS Pursuit of Richarlison Thwarted by Tottenham’s valuation
Flamengo’s quest for a premier center forward for the 2025 season hit a snag as Tottenham Hotspur rejected their proposal for Brazilian striker Richarlison. The English club’s valuation of the player proved to be a significant hurdle, exceeding what the Rio de Janeiro-based club deemed feasible. Tottenham, determined to retain the services of the Brazilian international, opted to keep him in their ranks.
### filipe Luís’ Direct Appeal and Tottenham’s Firm Stance
According to journalist Thiago asmar, Filipe Luís personally contacted Richarlison, expressing Flamengo’s strong interest in acquiring his talents for their squad. Flamengo later presented a formal offer, but Tottenham swiftly turned it down after careful consideration.
#### Values Out of Reach
Richarlison himself acknowledged the unlikelihood of a return to Brazilian football at this juncture, citing tottenham’s unwillingness to negotiate his departure. Offers from both Flamengo and Fluminense fell considerably short of the premier League club’s financial expectations.
### Other Brazilian Clubs Express Interest
Besides Flamengo, Fluminense also made an approach for the striker, only to receive the same negative response from Tottenham. Corinthians, Palmeiras, and Vasco also explored the possibility of signing Richarlison, but none submitted an official bid. Richarlison confirmed these developments via social media.
### Flamengo’s Urgent Need for a Center Forward
Flamengo’s pursuit of a center forward underscores their strategic priorities for the upcoming season. Pedro, the team’s current starting striker, is sidelined with an injury and is not expected to return until after the Carioca Championship. Furthermore, Carlinhos is not expected to feature prominently, and Gabigol’s departure at the end of his contract has left a void in the team’s attacking options.
### richarlison’s Situation at Tottenham
Richarlison’s playing time at Tottenham under manager Ange Postecoglou has been limited. This season,he has appeared in just seven matches, contributing one goal and one assist. His contract with the North London club extends until June 2027.
Exclusive Interview: “Tottenham’s Richarlison Dilemma” – Fanatic Frank Debates Flamengo’s Failed Bid!
We’re diving deep into a hot topic today: Flamengo’s thwarted attempt to snatch richarlison away from Tottenham. Joining us is lifelong Spurs supporter and football fanatic,Frank “The Fanatic” Davidson.Frank bleeds Lilywhite, knows every single Spurs signing since Glenn Hoddle, and isn’t afraid to voice his, let’s say, passionate opinions. Welcome, Frank!
Frank: Thanks for having me. Always happy to talk Spurs, even when the news isn’t exactly sunshine and roses.
(Moderator): Exactly! Now, let’s get into it. Flamengo’s very public interest in Richarlison – and Tottenham’s equally public rejection. Were you surprised by either the interest or the rejection?
Frank: Surprised Flamengo were sniffing around? Not really. They’re always looking for that big brazilian name to bring back home. Surprised Spurs said no? Absolutely not. They need goals, and Richarlison, despite his inconsistencies, offers something different up front. What genuinely surprised me was the level of interest, and Filipe Luís calling Richarlison directly? Straight out of the 1980s!
(Moderator): The article suggests Flamengo’s offer fell considerably short of Tottenham’s valuation. What do you think that valuation should be, given Richarlison’s current form and limited playing time under Postecoglou?
Frank: That’s the million-dollar question, isn’t it? Or, perhaps, the thirty-million-pound question. Before the World Cup, when he was banging in goals for Brazil and showing flashes of brilliance for Everton, you could have argued £50-60 million, no problem. Now? I think Daniel levy would be looking for something around the £30-35 million mark. He’s still a brazilian international, relatively young, and has Premier League experiance. But his goal record simply doesn’t justify a huge fee yet.
(Moderator): “Yet” is the key word there. but is that valuation realistic, considering other clubs’ interest seems lukewarm at best? Fluminense allegedly received the same answer as Flamengo, and the other Brazilian giants only explored the possibility. Is Tottenham overplaying their hand?
Frank: Look, Daniel Levy never overplays his hand! He’s a master negotiator, even if it infuriates us fans sometimes. But you’re right, judging by the reactions of other clubs, £30-35 million might be optimistic. However, it all comes down to desperation. If another Premier League club loses a striker to injury and comes calling in January, suddenly that valuation looks very different. Tottenham holds all the cards here. They don’t need to sell.
(Moderator): True, they’re under no pressure. The article also mentions Richarlison’s limited playing time this season – only seven appearances with one goal and one assist. Is he simply not fitting into Postecoglou’s system?
Frank: That’s a complex one. on paper, he should fit. Ange wants high-pressing forwards who can run all day and get into the box. Richarlison does all of those things, when he’s on form. The problem is… is he on form often enough? He looks frantic at times, snatching at chances, taking the wrong option. Maybe he’s still adjusting, maybe he needs a consistent run of games, but he hasn’t grabbed his chances. he needs to be more clinical. One goal and one assist in seven appearances simply isn’t good enough for a player earning his wages.
(Moderator): speaking of adapting, do you think Postecoglou’s system, emphasizing fluid movement and intricate passing, might actually hinder Richarlison’s strengths? He seems more suited to a more direct, physical style of play.
frank: That’s a valid point. Richarlison thrives on crosses, on scrappy goals, on being a nuisance in the box.Ange’s system, while exciting and effective, doesn’t always provide those opportunities. Think about Harry Kane. Lasting success with Ange was unlikely. Kane thrives in open play. It requires patience, precision, and understanding of complex patterns. richarlison is more instinctive, more reactive. The million dollar question is can Ange get the best out of a player who is instinctive? A player that likes to react?
(Moderator): So, where does this leave Richarlison? He’s under contract until 2027, Tottenham apparently wants to keep him, but his playing time is limited, and he doesn’t perfectly fit the system. Is a loan move a possibility, perhaps back to Brazil to rediscover his form?
Frank: A loan to Brazil? Absolutely not. That would be an admission of defeat, both for the club and the player. It would tank his value and send the wrong message to the rest of the squad.Spurs need to either find a way to integrate him properly or move him on permanently. A loan to another Premier League club, maybe a team in the bottom half looking for a striker with proven goal-scoring ability? That could be a possibility, but I still think Spurs are hoping he’ll come good. They invested a lot of money in him, and Daniel Levy doesn’t like taking losses.
(moderator): The Flamengo situation highlights their desperate need for a center forward. Pedro is injured,Carlinhos isn’t expected to feature prominently, and Gabigol’s departure is imminent. Do you think they’ll turn their attention to other targets, or are they likely to return with an improved offer for Richarlison in the future?
Frank: They’ll definitely explore other options. The South American market is vast, and they’ll be scouring it for the next big thing. Though,I wouldn’t rule out a renewed bid for Richarlison next summer, particularly if his situation at Tottenham doesn’t improve. But they’ll need to considerably up their offer. Tottenham won’t be bullied into selling him on the cheap.
(Moderator): Let’s talk about potential replacements if Tottenham did decide to cash in on Richarlison. Who do you think they should be targeting?
Frank: That’s tough. Ange likes versatile forwards who can play across the front line. Ivan Toney, when his ban is over, would be an interesting option – a proven Premier League goalscorer with a physical presence. But he comes with baggage. Maybe someone younger, with potential to develop under Ange. Someone like Evan Ferguson at Brighton, although he’d cost a fortune. Ultimately, it depends on what Ange is looking for: a proven goalscorer or a project.
(Moderator): Final thoughts, Frank? What’s your gut feeling about richarlison’s future at Tottenham?
Frank: My gut feeling? It’s 50/50. He’s got the talent, but he needs to show it consistently. He needs to grab his opportunities with both hands and prove to Ange that he’s worth a regular place in the team. If he doesn’t,I can see him being moved on next summer. It’s a make-or-break season for him, no doubt about it. Spurs fans are a fickle bunch, Frank knows that!
(Moderator): Frank “The Fanatic” Davison, thanks so much for your insightful and, as always, passionate outlook.
frank: Anytime! COYS!
