Johannes Daxbacher Honored with Federal Cross of Merit for Decades of Commitment to Judo and Humanitarian Work

On behalf of Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, the Bavarian State Minister for Europe and International Affairs, Eric Beißwenger, presented the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon to Johannes Daxbacher.

The Rococo Hall of the Government of Swabia in Augsburg was a worthy place for the presentation of this special award to the deserving judoka on February 21st.

Johannes Daxbacher was honored for his decades of voluntary regional, national and international commitment to judo and police sports, his humanitarian work and the associated transfer of values.

• • Collaboration with Italy and Japan

• • Commitment to the IJF, the EJU, the World Police Sports Association USIP, the United Nations (UNOSDP, UNHCR)

“He is distinguished by his outstanding commitment to judo sport, police sport and his commitment to judo for peace and development,” said Minister Eric Beißwenger in the laudatory speech.

“This special award largely belongs to my wife Regina, who has accompanied me for 34 years and has supervised and advised many projects. She is a proven judo expert and I am very grateful for that,” said Johannes Daxbacher when he was presented with the Federal Cross of Merit on the band.

He receives special recognition from Ethiopia. With Dr. He has been working closely with Tsegaye Degineh on the “Judo for Ethiopians” project since 2010. “We all know how Johannes Daxbacher built up judo in Ethiopia and tirelessly promoted it. He always remained steadfast despite setbacks and invested his life, money and energy into it. This shows the intensity and depth of his commitment to judo, not only in Germany, but also for other countries and internationally. Such a personality is something special in our time and we are proud to have him as a friend and grandmaster. We wish him the best and keep it up. The world needs many people like this!” says Dr. Tsegaye Degineh.

Johannes Daxbacher received a special congratulations from the President of the IJF, Marius Vizer. “This award is the result of the commitment and hard work you have done over the years for the development of judo worldwide. You have repeatedly highlighted the values ​​of our sport.”
