Lorenzo Musetti was unable to win a trophy for his home showcase in 2023.
Lorenzo Musetti was unable to repeat the big coup from 2022 this season. The first two titles on the ATP tour in Hamburg and Naples were not followed by any further trophies in the last twelve months. Nevertheless, the 21-year-old was able to establish himself at the top of the world rankings this year. In June, the highest placement in the ATP rankings to date was celebrated at number 15.
The Italian ended the year in 27th place. Musetti has never been worse in 2023. When looking at the world ranking points earned, it is noticeable that it was primarily consistency that earned the points this year. The young star trained by Simone Tartarini not only remained without a title this calendar year. Musetti was also denied a place in the finals, if one excludes the Davis Cup and the United Cup as team competitions. Only three semi-finals in Barcelona, Chengdu and Bastad are the best results.

But this is exactly what the advantage for Lorenzo Musetti will be for the coming year. This starting position guarantees that you won’t have to defend many points in any tournament. With 180 points, the semi-finals in Barcelona (500 category), the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo (Masters category) and the round of 16 at the French Open are the largest points that could be lost in one fell swoop if there is an early elimination from these tournaments happen.
This means you can be sure that even with early defeats, a sudden drop in the rankings cannot happen. And vice versa, the advantage is that with a final participation or the third title on the ATP tour, the points account increases and the ranking increases. Maybe with a good result at one of the big tournaments and getting closer to the top 10.
