Unicaja Dominates Andalucía Cup Preseason Test with 73-88 Victory over Coviran Granada

The first preseason test ended with victory in the Andalucía Cup. Unicaja won 73-88 on the Coviran Granada field in a good start that serves to pick up kilometers and pace in preparation for the season that starts in less than a month.

It took both teams to warm up, but the people from Malaga did it first. A triple by Carter and the lock by Dylan Osetkowski, with 8 points, propelled Ibon Navarro’s team to 7-22 at the end of the first 10 minutes. Kameron Taylor and Ilimane Diop came into play, the two signings this summer.

In the second quarter the locals improved, but a great last stretch before the break allowed the green and purple team to maintain their 10-goal lead (29-39). A spectacular play on the board 3.6 seconds from the final horn ended with a 2 plus 1 from Tyson Carter, after a pass in the purest “quarterback” style from Osetkowski, and put the icing on the cake for the first half.

After the break, good minutes from Mario Saint-Supéry and, in general, from the team. The points of Kalinoski and Carter triggered the difference up to 17 points. Kameron Taylor also had a good start, the man from Maryland was seen integrated with his teammates and with good complicity on the track, with several assists.

In the last quarter, Ibon Navarro’s men took another step towards the halfway point of the period. Trying different variations of the system, the advantage rose to 20 points, with Carter and Saint-Supéry alternating in the point guard position. Some individual actions by Granada lowered the score to 14, but Will Thomas appeared there to appease the comeback attempt. The one from Baltimore, with his newly released number 34, made it big in the paint.

In the final stages of the match, the homegrown players Hugo Vázquez and Baboucar Badji enjoyed minutes. Dylan Osetkowski was the best of those in green and purple with 19 points, 4 assists, 8 rebounds and a PIR of 27. In the annotation he was accompanied by Tyson Carter, with 18 goals, and Will Thomas with 14 goals.

Good contact for Unicaja, which begins to fuel with the loss of the three internationals and the injured Sima, Kravish and Lima; and that raises the XXVI Cup of Andalusia. Ahead, another week of training before facing the EncestaRias Tournament in Galicia next weekend.
