Sven Ulreich (35) would like Manuel Neuer (37) to return to FC Bayern soon – and would vacate his post.

Things often happen in football that nobody expects. Of course, in December last year, Sven Ulreich could not have foreseen that Manuel Neuer would be injured so badly while skiing and then be absent for several months.
In January, Ulreich was given a new number one in Yann Sommer. After the Swiss player’s departure to Inter, Ulreich is now temporarily guarding the goal again. “Of course you’re happy when you can play, but that’s what you work for every day,” said the 35-year-old on Wednesday when the new Audi company car was handed over to the Bayern pros.
Ulreich welcomes the move from Peretz to the Isar
In 2015, the then VfB goalkeeper moved to Munich and got used to the situation of only playing when Neuer can’t – which happened from time to time over the years. “We have to make sure that we get calm waters again,” he now hopes. “I think we’re on the right track there.”
That means: Because Neuer’s comeback after another operation is now approaching, the who-is-now-first-Bayern goalkeeper discussion should soon be over. From Ulreich’s point of view, Daniel Peretz (23, Maccabi Tel Aviv)’s forthcoming move is a good one: “It’s always important that the club is well positioned for the future. That you weigh up the possibilities. We’ll see what happens. ”
“Manu is simply the best goalkeeper in the world”
For the current number one, the situation is clear: “Manu is simply the best goalkeeper in the world, even after an injury like this he will come back very strong. Then it’s natural for me that Manu plays then.”
Ulreich doesn’t know exactly when that will be, but he assures: “Manu is working like a wild man for his comeback. It’s the right path that has been taken with him. He’s making great progress. I hope and wish that he then soon be able to train with us normally again. And then soon be able to play again.”
