RSC Anderlecht’s Weak Start Raises Concerns and Questions

Several clubs did not get off to a good start in the Jupiler Pro League, but especially the lesser performance of RSC Anderlecht stood out in a negative sense. The record champion made a very weak turn on the field of Union SG. However, the expectations surrounding Purple & White were quite high.

RSCA wants to recover this season after the painful eleventh place in the past year. During the preparation, quite a few positive signals came out. But in the first official match of the season, the Purple & White immediately fell through. Certainly the first half in the Dudenpark was of a particularly low level. And so it was lost to the fellow townsman for the seventh time in a row.

Failing midfield

Analyst Philippe Albert was also deeply disappointed in the performance of his former club. And he thinks he knows where the problem lies. “The biggest disappointment? Anderlecht’s performance. They were lamentable in the first half. Questions should certainly be asked about midfield”, Albert added. RTBF. “For example, Ashimeru was too defensive, while Arnstad was too offensive. I would have liked to see it reversed.”

Top 6 will be tricky

RSCA would be planning to correct in midfield during the remaining weeks of the transfer window. Moreover, Albert found that there are also positive elements. For example, he thinks that striker Kasper Dolberg can become an added value if he is brought into position sufficiently. But even then it will be difficult to achieve the goals. “The top 6 will be difficult. After Club Brugge, KRC Genk, Antwerp, AA Gent and Union, only one place remains. And there are several candidates for that,” says Albert.
