MILWAUKEE, Wis. (AP) — Miles Mikolas pitched one-hit ball into the seventh inning, Tommy Edman homered for the second straight night and the St. Louis Cardinals thrashed the Milwaukee Brewers 10-1 on Friday.
Mikolas (1-0) struck out seven and gave up one run on three hits and one walk in 6 2/3 innings. The only hit he allowed was a single by Rowdy Tellez in the second inning.
Nolan Arenado and Edman hit two-run homers for the Cardinals. Tyler O’Neill and Andrew Knizner had three hits apiece.
Milwaukee only had six hits against a combination of Mikolas, Nick Wittgren and Andre Pallante. Christian Yelich struck out in each of his four plate appearances.
The Cardinals gave Mikolas a nice cushion by scoring four runs in the first inning and two more in the second off Freddy Peralta (0-1), who has allowed seven first-inning runs in his two starts this season.
For the Cardinals, Panamanian Edmundo Sosa, 5-2 with a run scored.
For the Brewers, the Venezuelan Omar Narváez, 4-1 with 1 RBI, and the Dominican Willy Adames, 3-0.
