Totonicapán | The San Cristóbalense basketball championship was held for 5 months where 16 teams participated in the male and female branches. The final matches were played with grit and effort by the players who fought until the last second to win.
While in the men’s branch, the Dukes team lost the final with a score of 37 to 38, crowning the Walkers team as champion.
The winners of the first places were awarded medals and trophies, this being the first basketball championship authorized after it was suspended for two years due to the pandemic.
Escarlet Santiago, captain of the Walkes women’s team, said that sports activities have been suspended since the pandemic began, however, authorization was obtained to carry out the championship with all the biosecurity measures to avoid contagion.
Habert Caniz captain of the champion team in the men’s branch Walkes said that it is important to promote sports and thus not allow youth to get lost in vices, he also referred to the construction of a new sports center that will allow more recreation for youth .
In the municipality, the construction of a sports center and the extension of the Las Claras field of the municipality of San Cristóbal, Totonicapán with investment from the municipality of that locality is contemplated.
