Ömer Onan: Anadolu’da 3×3 Basketbol Sahaları Yapacağız

Ömer Onan Visits Kayseri Ahead of EuroBasket Qualifiers

Turkish Basketball Federation official Ömer Onan traveled to Kayseri to support the A National Women’s Basketball Team ahead of their 2019 European Championship Qualifiers Group B fixture against Belarus, Haber 7 SPOR reported. During his visit to the city, Onan toured a local private school’s sports facilities and spoke with local reporters regarding the national squad’s campaign and upcoming schedule.

Group Standing and Upcoming Match Against Belarus

The Turkish women’s national team secured qualification for the European Championship following a previous victory against Poland. Onan noted that while the team holds an opportunity to finish top of the group even with a defeat in Kayseri, the squad remains focused on securing a victory. He pointed to the strong local interest in women’s basketball in Kayseri, expressing confidence that the arena would be packed with supporters.

Nationwide 3×3 Court Project Through 12 Giant Men

Onan outlined plans by the federation to expand basketball infrastructure across Anatolia through the 12 Giant Men Basketball Schools (12 DABO) initiative. Working alongside the Ministry of National Education and the Ministry of Sports, the federation aims to construct 3×3 basketball courts in schools across every city without existing facilities. Under the project, the federation will cover training equipment needs, while sponsorship arrangements will fund the court construction.

Player Production and International Success

Describing basketball as a proud branch of Turkish sport, Onan pointed to the consistent success of both club sides and national teams in European competition. He highlighted current NBA players Cedi Osman and Furkan Korkmaz alongside past representatives Hidayet Türkoğlu, Ömer Aşık, and Ersan İlyasova as evidence of the country’s high-level talent production.
