Trail Blazers Falter After Building 16-Point Lead
Portland controlled the early flow of the game, building a 16-point advantage in the second quarter behind sharp perimeter shooting and interior rebounding. The momentum shifted entirely in the third period when the Lakers unleashed a 17-0 run that erased the deficit and put the home side ahead for good.
Austin Reaves contributed 25 points for Los Angeles, while Walker Kessler added 16 points and 12 rebounds to anchor the paint during the second-half comeback. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for Portland, dropping them to 8-2 overall and handing them just their second defeat of the young season.
Deni Avdija and Damian Lillard Lead Portland Attack
Deni Avdija paced the Trail Blazers with 22 points, nine rebounds, and 11 assists. Damian Lillard matched Avdija with 22 points, while Toumani Camara chipped in 18 points.
Donovan Clingan recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds for Portland, which played its first game in four outings without Ja Morant. Morant was sidelined due to a hamstring strain suffered earlier in the week.
Lakers Maintain Top Western Conference Spot Ahead of Saturday Game
With the victory, the Lakers maintained their grip on the top spot in the Western Conference standings. Portland sits close behind in the upper tier of the conference despite missing the opportunity to claim first place outright.
The Lakers return to the floor on Saturday night to continue their early-season homestand, while the Trail Blazers travel back to Oregon to host their next matchup as they look to rebound from the physical contest.
