Linda Nosková’s “Dropshot” Tattoo Caps a Rare Month Off the Tour
“You’re the ultimate legend, Linda.” That was the greeting waiting for Czech tennis star Linda Nosková when she posted a photo of her newest tattoo on Instagram — a message from the official account of Dropshot, the café chain that rings the grounds of Wimbledon’s All England Club in London, sport.aktualne.cz reported.
Nosková revealed the ink herself in the same post: the word “Dropshot” now sits above the elbow of her left arm, rendered in the lettering of the London coffee brand. Her caption carried a promise — “I swear this has a deeper meaning” — leaving fans to connect the dots.
A month away after Beijing warning signs
The tattoo arrived at the end of a break Nosková had not really allowed herself in two years. In Beijing, the Přerov-born player felt her body starting to break down: her left calf ached, and instead of fading, the pain intensified with every match and every training session, according to sport.aktualne.cz.
Last November, Nosková was the leader of the Czech team in the Billie Jean King Cup playoffs, carrying the side through the tie. Her only break afterward was a week spent among children in Africa — which she framed as rest before returning straight to preparation for the next season. This time, she actually enjoyed the time off, and it included a visit to a tattoo parlor.
Why “Dropshot” — and why that font
The meaning is not hard to read. A dropshot is a softly struck tennis shot that dies just over the net, and the word itself is the name of the café chain whose locations surround the All England Club in Wimbledon, London. Fans, coaches and players gather at those cafés every year during the grass-court Grand Slam. The font of Nosková’s tattoo matches the brand’s lettering, tying the ink directly to the London tournament setting.
When the cafés’ official account commented under her photo, it paired the compliment with an expectation: “That’s the kind of commitment we expect from all our players. You’re the ultimate legend, Linda.”
Sunday opener against world No. 1 Rybakina
Nosková now hopes the new tattoo brings her luck at the peak of the season, the WTA Finals, the season-ending championship for the tour’s eight best players. The 2025 edition is staged in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. She opens the entire program on Sunday with a match against the current world No. 1, Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan — a demanding first test for a player returning after a month away.
The Czech contingent at the finals also includes Karolína Muchová and doubles specialist Kateřina Siniaková, with the event broadcast live on CANAL+ Sport 2, the report noted. For Nosková, the stakes are personal as well as competitive: she reached the semifinals at Indian Wells earlier this season, where the WTA Finals will now be played.
Nosková’s tattoo and the WTA Finals: what to know
- Left calf pain that started in Beijing and worsened with each match and training session led her to withdraw from Wuhan and rest for a full month — the first real break she has taken in two years, sport.aktualne.cz reported.
- The word “Dropshot,” placed above her left elbow, in the font of the Dropshot café chain based around Wimbledon’s All England Club in London.
- The official Dropshot café account wrote under her Instagram photo that she is “the ultimate legend,” calling the gesture the kind of commitment the brand expects from its players.
- Nosková opens the WTA Finals program on Sunday against world No. 1 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan in Riyadh.
The reporting ends where the record does: with Nosková back on court on Sunday, a month removed from the calf pain that forced her out in Wuhan, wearing a word on her arm that Wimbledon regulars will recognize before anyone else does.
