Francesco Quaglia Wins Opening Match at Italian Absolute a2 Judo Championship

Francesco Quaglia secured a victory in his opening match at the Italian Absolute A2 Judo Championship before exiting the tournament in the second round.

The competition took place on Saturday, Nov. 7, at the PalaPellicone venue in Ostia. Quaglia competed in the 66-kilogram division, representing the Judo Club Simonazzi of Bordighera.

As a third-year Cadet and black belt, the young judoka faced Junior and Senior competitors who possessed greater age and competitive maturity. In his opening bout, Quaglia reached the golden score period after regulation time expired without a winner. He advanced when his opponent accumulated the threshold limit of penalties.

In his second match, the Bordighera athlete attempted a sen-no-sen proactive counter-technique to anticipate his opponent’s attack. Instead, his opponent caught him with a decisive scoring technique. Because he did not qualify for the repechage bracket, his tournament run ended.

Filippo Quaglia, the president and coach of the Judo Club Simonazzi, assessed the performance following the event. Sono orgoglioso di Francesco per come ha affrontato questa giornata, he said. Presentarsi agli Assoluti ancora da Cadetto significa accettare una sfida impegnativa.

The coach noted that competing at the senior national level as a cadet provides valuable developmental experience. He added that the second match exposed tactical areas requiring further gym work.

Vincere il primo incontro al Golden Score è un segnale concreto del lavoro che sta facendo, Filippo Quaglia stated. Il secondo combattimento ci lascia aspetti da analizzare e sui quali migliorare: torneremo in palestra per questo.
