Warriors Rookie Yaxel Lendeborg Criticizes Luka Doncic After NBA Debut
Golden State Warriors rookie Yaxel Lendeborg launched a verbal attack on Luka Doncic following the Los Angeles Lakers’ 127–105 victory over the Warriors in their NBA season opener, expressing sharp frustration over the Slovenian superstar’s on-court demeanor.
Lendeborg Receives Technical Foul Amid Clashes with Doncic
The tension between Lendeborg and Doncic flared repeatedly throughout the game, culminating in a technical foul assessed to Lendeborg just before halftime. The rookie’s grievances centered primarily on what he perceived as constant complaining to the officials.
“Es geht darum, dass er sich das ganze Spiel über beschwert. Und dann bekommst du den Pfiff. Glückwunsch, Bro. Und dann redest du mit mir, als hättest du etwas Großartiges geleistet,” Lendeborg stated of the ongoing disputes on the floor.
Loss of Respect and Postgame Criticism
Speaking after the final buzzer, Lendeborg admitted that his view of the Lakers guard had changed dramatically over the course of the 48-minute matchup. He maintained that prior to tip-off, he held high regard for the perennial All-Star.
“Ich habe vor dem Spiel vor Doncic großen Respekt gehabt, aber wenn man dann selbst dabei ist und das ganze Gejammer und Beschweren sieht, habe ich jeglichen Respekt verloren. Das war furchtbar,” Lendeborg said.
Luka Doncic Responds to the Rookie’s Remarks
Doncic offered his own perspective on the exchanges, noting that Lendeborg had spent much of the contest talking aggressively. The Lakers star explained that he had entered the season intending to avoid trash talk to prevent technical fouls, but a buzzer-beater from midcourt right before halftime changed his approach.
“Jeder weiß, wenn jemand anfängt zu reden, bekommst er eine andere Version von mir,” Doncic remarked regarding his decision to return fire verbally.

Steve Kerr Evaluates the Debut and the Penalty
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr addressed the incident and his rookie’s performance after the game, framing the physical and verbal baptism as a standard initiation into the league while dismissing the officiating penalty against Lendeborg.
Kerr described the matchup as a “großartiger Empfang in der NBA” and recounted telling his young forward that “die Liga ist anders. Bessere Tage kommen.” Furthermore, Kerr labeled the technical foul whistled against Lendeborg as “ziemlich lächerlich.”
