Watchdogs warn of fraudulent ticket sites for football, rugby and tennis

Fraudulent online ticketing platforms are actively targeting football, rugby, and tennis fixtures, prompting warnings from consumer watchdogs, tournament organizers, and stadium management. Radio France reported that deceptive websites are utilizing convincing URLs and professional layouts to market counterfeit passes for upcoming international matches and major sporting showcases.

Counterfeit Operations Target French Football and Rugby

The consumer fraud monitoring platform Signal Arnaques issued two distinct alerts on October 4 regarding unauthorized websites masquerading as official ticketing portals for national sports federations. The fraudulent network included a now-deactivated domain utilizing the URL “fffbilletteries.com,” which closely mirrored the official French Football Federation address at billetterie.fff.fr/fr. Radio France noted that the deceptive storefront appeared credible to prospective buyers, offering access to matches featuring the France national football team as well as the upcoming Champions League final scheduled in Madrid next June.

A second unauthorized portal, identified as “ticketsixnations.com,” operated in a similar fashion before being shut down. Signal Arnaques confirmed that this site marketed tickets for rugby fixtures at the Stade de France, accepting direct card payments from unsuspecting consumers. These operations capitalized on the high demand for national team fixtures, mirroring previous fraudulent activity tracked by Radio France during the build-up to the football World Cup.

Adding to the concern, fraudulent platforms frequently fail to update their basic catalog details, leaving expired listings active. Investigators found that the defunct “fffbilletteries.com” site continued advertising tickets for matches that had already been played, including fixtures against Turkey, Belgium, and Italy held on September 25, September 28, and October 2.

Stade Atlantique de Bordeaux Issues Strict Access Warnings

Stadium authorities are ramping up public advisories as high-profile matches approach. The Stade Atlantique de Bordeaux released a formal statement regarding the upcoming France versus Turkey fixture scheduled for November 15, warning supporters against unauthorized channels. Management emphasized that only official ticketing outlets guarantee valid entry and secure stadium access, explicitly stating that tickets acquired through any unverified resale platforms or secondary websites will be refused at the gates.

Roland-Garros Organizers Block Unauthorized Tennis Sales

Tennis authorities are similarly confronting advance ticketing fraud. Organizers for the Roland-Garros tournament issued a public advisory on September 18 cautioning fans about deceptive sales offers circulating online ahead of the next edition. Officials stated that ticketing for the 2027 edition of Roland-Garros is not yet open, confirming that no external platform, agency, or reseller holds authorization to commercialize tournament seats at this stage. Spectators have been advised to wait for official announcements and to utilize exclusively the verified ticketing portal at tickets.rolandgarros.com, where sale dates are slated for release by mid-October.
